Is a tablet something you attach to your computer? If so where can you get some?

No.

Tablet is usually a name describing a type of laptop that has a touch screen for certain purposes.

You could technically get a tablet, which would be just a large touchpad, but it would not be as useful.

This may not help you, but this is what I know. My computer downloaded something one time, and my mouse stopped working. My mouse wouldn't move at all, and I was afraid I'd never get my PC fixed. I did eventually fix it. Anyways, while it was broken, there was a pen pop-up/ icon on my desktop. What had happened was my PC stopped the mouse and started the pen device. The only problem was I didn't have a pen device. I could go to a store and buy a pen and install it on my PC. I have heard of people who have this on their PCs. So maybe you could install a pen device on your PC without buying a tablet PC which uses a pen. I finally figured it out! A tablet is flat and easy to write on. You can hold it in your hand or lay it flat on the desk. A pen on your computer screen is awkward hence the tablet PC.

A tablet is most often plugged into a USB port on your computer. The pen then acts like a mouse, moving your cursor to wherever you move it on the tablet.

Think of the tablet top like your computer screen. Touch it and it clicks.

That's a basic explanation, you can change many settings and some work differently.

You can get them at many different websites and graphic design stores. The most well known in my opinion are Wacom tablets.

However, some do tend to be 100$ or more. Cheaper ones, as I've been told, aren't good quality, but I do not own one myself.

There are laptops called tablets where you can just write on it and it'll appear on your screen of course if your using the application that will allow it to do so but they do sell others that can attach to a PC usually used for drawing or manga artists. It should be easy to find one online...

Yes, it's a peripheral for drawing/art--you have a stylus and a "tablet" for drawing instead of using a mouse.
