i bought a Dell inspiron laptop computer a few days ago, but i don't like it. I went with Dell because i have always heard that they are the best, but it is really slow to load up. Very hard to download my programs on to. and when you get it loaded up it is still really slow to get anything going. I mainly use it for my school work and to get on the internet. I thought about downloading a couple of games just for fun, but gaming is not my main purpose for it. I am only looking to spend about $1000. What is the best laptop for me to buy? I am going to take this Dell back and get something else. Anyone have any ideas.

Unfortunately, there is no "best" laptop. The names you see like Dell, Toshiba, Acer, HP, etc, they are only names. They are companies that pick what parts go inside the plastic case which they manufacture. The parts they pick from are all made from the same companies. The processors are made by either AMD or Intel. The graphics chips are either Intel, AMD/ATI, or nVidia. The RAM is going to be made by one of a number of specific companies. Same with the wireless, DVD drive, screen, etc.

It's probably more a software issue with your dell, or you chose a bad configuration (a slower model).

Also don't go for the Macbook comments. No brand is going to be 'faster' than anther. Macbook is not proven to run Vista faster than other brands (but it does run Vista faster than it's own OS, Mac, in some tests). Macs have the same parts in them as most other brands of computers, but they cost 3x more on average.

Make sure whatever you get has a dual-core processor and at LEAST 1gb or RAM. You can get what you want for between $600 and $800.

MACBOOK, I recently changed from Windows to mac the machine works better, better tech support 1000 times better from dell, much much less risk of getting viruses. If you want a computer that will last more than 2 years get mac, it is more expensive but if you go to the store you can get a student discount and you can take the computer home the same day.

I have found that iBooks are very useful and fast laptops. I used them for three years in middle school. No matter which version they all download fast and connect to the internet fast. They also have some interesting programs.

There is probably something wrong with the laptop they gave you.

I have a Dell Inspiron e1705, and i am very happy with it. Its extremely fast and works great.

I would take yours back and ask for a exchange, because there is a chance there is just something wrong with the one they gave you.

It isn't the Dell's fault. It's Vista. All pc's in your price range will behave the same. Find the XP drivers for your pc and burn them on a cd-r, format the hard disk and install XP. Or go Linux : http://www.pclinuxos.com/ is a good way to start - no drivers or special config knowledge. You will be surprised in the speed difference.

my advice is to replace your Dell laptop with Dell XPS something for no extra charge. www.ewebtop.com recommended the top models of Dell.

With $1000 u won't get any good laptops that u want to load with blazing speed (high-end) which is what dell is about. If i may give my preference of the best laptop, it's definitely MACBOOK PRO, it's a high-end laptop with good graphic card, one of the latest processor, freaking fast. It's around $1900

Apple Macbook Pro

Has been proven to run Vista better than any other laptop.

Use Bootcamp to boot into windows when you need it but after you use it for a while you will love OS X
