My Dell has the same thing. You have to have the Bluetooth component installed for Bluetooth to work. Most of the new laptops Dell is producing have the symbol on it, but it doesn't function unless you ordered the integrated Bluetooth.

Check out this link to your Owners Manual. It shows where the bluetooth card would be installed if you have one on that system.

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins9300/sm/sullivar.htm#wp1000550

If you have one, you would activate it by doing either of the following:

1) Right click on the bluetooth icon in the bottom right hand corner of your screen (system tray), and select "Enable Bluetooth Radio"

2) Press the key and the key at the same time (FN key is the blue one on the bottom left corner of the keyboard).

The bluetooth icon on the system tray will have a white symbol in the blue dot when it is enabled, but will have a red symbol when it is disabled.

You can also check to see if it is being recognized and enabled by the Device Manager by doing the following:

1) Click Start then Run

2) type devmgmt.msc then click Ok

3) In the device manager window, click the plus beside the Bluetooth devices section

4) Right click on the wireless device and select "Enable" if it isn't already.

You may want to get the latest software for the device as well if it still doesn't work. There are far too many steps to walk you through so I have found a troubleshooting tree for you to try if you still need to. Check it out.

Hope this helps!! Good Luck.

P.S. This is for Raj... using the FN key and the F8 key will only toggle the video between screens or to a projector. Sorry.

Hi

Please follow these simple steps to activate the bluetooth.

press & hold the FN key and press the F8 key at the same time, you shud see the bluetooth light go on and off. This will work provided tht bluetooth is enabled in bios (press F2 during boot to check). if u need more help u can always call the Dell Technical Support on the phone which is free. or go to this link to find more answers. http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/product_support/product_support_central?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

Apologize for wrong info, FN+F2 shud do the trick, thnks for correcting me... ;-)

hope this helps,
