I have a DELL Inspiron 1525 laptop, with 2.1GHz core 2 duo and 4GB DDR2 dual channel RAM running Vista.

I have recently installed a Microsoft Basic Optical mouse. I can see that every now and then, the mouse pointer drifts from the current location to a corner of the screen or so. I can get it back instantly, but this is very annoying. Any idea what could be wrong? I have correct and latest device driver for the mouse.

Did you disable the touchpad mouse? You might be hitting it by accident while you're typing. Just a thought. Turn it off and you won't have that problem.

If not, the problem might be with the mouse driver. Uninstall the mouse driver and just use the generic mouse driver that comes with Vista.

touch pads are constantly finicky on the terrific of situations. If that is 3 years previous that asserts plenty. that is wiped out. Disable it and use a known mouse. in the adventure that your workstation has have been given a eco-friendly colored playstation /2 socket then get a mouse with that connection in view that's a mouse committed socket. If no longer then get a worry-free USB mouse.

It could be that the mouse is moving. Such as it being on something that is not completely flat.
