I am trying to connect to my laptop to my wireless network and it seems to be not working. It tells me I have an invalid IP address. I know someone asked a question exactly like this, but the answers on there didnt work. I tried rebooting my 2WIRE modem and it doesnt change anything. I would like to try and see my modems settings and see if it is set to hand out ip addresses, but i dont know how to do that. :l

Also, my sister's computer has no problems using the internet from her laptop wirelessly...for some reason mine does though. I have read some other discussions on this topic, but I dont know how to do some of the stuff that was suggested. Please help, and keep in mind im not a computer genius. x_x

Most likely you're computer doesn't have the correct driver for your wireless card. If you have windows, do a start, run, cmd and then ipconfig and look to see if you have an ip address, most likely if you're not connecting you'll have a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx address which is a microsoft reserved. Also do a right click on my computer then hardware then device manager to see if you're network cards are installed correctly.

If all of that is up and running correctly, go to you're sisters computer and do the same ipconfig command to get the default gateway and then type that address into a web browser and you should be prompted for a username and password, if its still set as default just type in "admin" or "password" as the password, leave the username blank. Check to see if DHCP is enabled on your wireless router, and also if wireless security is on and you may need a key to correctly log into the wireless network.

Yeah its sounds like that the drivers for your connection aren't installed. Is your wireless connection built in or is there a card for it? If its built in go to the site of the computer and go to support and however you can get to the drivers. If its a card that you had to put in yourself you should have gotten software with it that installs everything you need for your machine.

You need to reinstall/install the drivers for your "network adapter." If you need more help let me know

Along the same lines as what Platinum said, do this, Start->Run->cmd, from there, type ipconfig/all. What is the IP? It won't matter that you post it, as it is a private network address, and won't lead directly to you. If it is at least in the correct span, it should be 192.168.1.10x, x being 1-9. Check to make sure you are getting a default gateway. The fact that it says you have an invalid IP address leads me to believe you might have randomly typed stuff into the IP field when setting it up. This is an issue on your side from the sounds of it, not the router/modem. Make sure you have it set to use DHCP (obtain settings automatically).

Insert the soft ware Cd that came with router and follow instructions for set up, you will need the information off the router and pass word used to set up.

Go to the website for the manufacturer of the router. Write down the Information on router and the pass word used when setting up router, go to set up a new connection and follow instructions and put in information asked for. You can also ask the maker of the router and they will guide you through set up and also will have a help feature that will tell you how to correct set up problem.

Hope this helps
