I am thinking of purchasing a new laptop at a computer fair as I should be able to purchase a laptop at a reduced price, Is this advisable or should I just buy from a major retailer??

Thanks in advance.

Never. The problem with laptops is that certail hardware and motherboard faults only show themselves after several hours of use. We regularly have customers that bring laptops in for repair with intermittent faults that are very difficult to fix and isolate. When buying a second hand laptop you need to either know and trust the seller or buy from a shop that will give you a decent warranty. Alternatively, be prepared to pay for a potentially expensive laptop repair http://www.trilogicuk.co.uk

I've gone to places that refurbish computers in my area. If you have a good store by you then the people working there are honest and you won't have troubles. I just bought a pretty recent mac in there for only a few hundred dollars where as with apple it would have been about 3 times that much. It might be worth a shot.

Better buy it from a major retailer. Buying from a fair means trouble. The gadget might be second hand, infected by a virus etc. Even though it's price is reduced, you are sure to buy a new one in months. It is better to buy one costly laptop than buying two.

This would be a really good place to buy a laptop, but do you have a specific model in mind? 'Cause you have to make up your mind about which one you want during the several hours that you'll be there. If you don't find anything good there, you can always wait until boxing day or black friday...

it really depends on the condition of the computer really.
