hi lauren
when buying a laptop you need to take many factors into consideration including are you going to be playing games? and are you going to use this for surfing the net?
i say these two factors as gaming requires a decent graphics card/adapter in a laptop and these are quite rare in cheaper laptops however you can get a decent laptop with good graphics for less than £700,for example the MESH MSI ER710 from http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.aspx?PAGE=PRODUCTVIEWPAGE&USG=PRODUCT&ENT=PRODUCT&KEY=332739,is a very good laptop for its price(£ 539.00 inc VAT)...heres its specifications:

the AMD Athlon 64 X2 TK53 Dual Core Mobile Processor is a excellent processor for both general use and gaming and the 2gb of ddr2 memory ensures everything will run smoothly
as for wireless connectivity the Wireless LAN - 802.11b /g will connect to any wireless network that supports b or g type wireless network standards
for less than £550 you can get some decent laptops for example the MESH MSI PR600 Plus (http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.aspx?PAGE=PRODUCTVIEWPAGE&USG=PRODUCT&ENT=PRODUCT&KEY=224991)which has some capable specifications, these include a core 2 duo processor and 2gb of ddr ram, these are the standard offering in laptops of this price

out of the two laptops described i think the second of the two is more suited to what you want, and even the 128MB Intel GMA X3100 Integrated Graphics are capable of running some games, and since this graphics adapter is direct x 10 compliant and supports pixel shader model 4.0 it will support any game that uses direct x 10
any problems let me know
good luck lauren !
