Question

Hya i'm looking to buy a laptop, but not really sure what i'm doing :S lol.
Can you get laptops with built-in internet? Like wireless or whatever?
what can I expect to pay for one?

Yeah You Can Get Ones With Built In Internet I Seen It On The Adverts From Pc World And Their Laptops Are Cheap To And Another Cheap One Is Dell And At Dell There Customisable (However You Spell It :P ) Some Laptops You Can Get From Around £100 And Other like over £1000 If You Type Laptops In Google And Search Around A Bit You Can Find Good Ones For Low Prices :)

I'm going to assume you're not into the hardcore powerful computers and such. Take a look at PC World but don't settle on only what you see there. You can also look at Dell.co.uk, Currys, Comet, local computer shops, Dixons, even Argos. As for what you should be aiming for unless you get an older laptop you'll almost certainly be getting Vista as an operating system which means you need at least 512MB RAM and preferably 1GB RAM. The processor should really be a dual core at this point, around 1.5GHz with a 500MHz FSB (don't worry about that last part too much). If the processor is a dual core pentium or a Core 2 Duo you're on the right track. Chances are you won't get a stand alone video card and instead it will be integrated but make sure it's got at least 128MB of video memory. The hard drive will probably be at least 60GB which is probably fine for you and I think every laptop comes with a wireless adapter and ethernet port as standard.



For a laptop with these sorts of specs you should be able to find one for around £400-500, perhaps less if you find one on sale (but that's doubtful). Take a look around PC places and you should be able to find a decent laptop for a decent price.

There are a lot of laptops around, each good for doing different jobs and tasks. Fo you, who seems relatively new to laptops then I would suggest going lower-end.



All laptops these days will come with built in Wi-Fi (Wireless internet) and an ethernet port (If you are wired internet).



I would suggest looking in at a Dell Inspiron laptop. These are good laptops, slightly-lower end, but still good. They come with a good set of features too.



If you do go for a different laptop though, look out for these terms:



Hard Drive/Storage - the higher the number (in GB) the more storage you have, 80GB is a good place to start



Memory/RAM - The more memory/ram you have the more tasks you can run at once. Usually laptops will come with at least 1GB of Ram.



CPU - This will either be listed as Intel Core 2 Duo, or AMD Anthlon X2.



Video card - For the jobs you are going to be doing with this laptop, a Intel integrated video card would do the job.



Optical Drives - (The CD/DVD slot) You will usually look for one which says 8X



The lowest end Dell Inspiron Laptop would be a good one to choose (Well, I would say) It also comes with Windows Vista Home Premium too.

Try also looking online (obviously you have internet connection already!) for some prices. I've heard dell are good with their laptops. As the other person has said, you can get a range of laptops from just doing basic stuff (like surfing and work) right through to your more advanced gaming/hi-spec laptop. okay laptops. you can get from the basics to high tech. but for what you say you want u want the basic with out the toys. You can get build in wi-fi. most are going that way now a days. if not you can put a card or usb plug for wireless about 50.00. you will have no choice but to get vista. Its getting better. my laptop is better then my desktop cause i waited about 5-6 months later. you should get at least 1 or 2gb of ram, 80-120gb or more hard drive. use for storing things like pic, music, files, software. amd 64 athlong x2 graphic card is nice. Think what you will do cause its better to spend ur money once then a few times. run anywhere from 500 to thousands. It all depends on how much toys you like on your computer. Any computer place or store like walmart is pretty good, where i got my laptop and it works perfect. Oh and almost for got! Certain brands. Stick with acer, dell, HP. Stay away from any damn china computer. such as e-machine to main the biggie. they just fall apart. Dell and HP are the top of the line brands and are very helpful if you have problems.

go to a computer shop, like PC world or something, as to how much you can expect to pay that depends entirely on what specs you want, do you want it for gaming? or just surfing? that are different specs and builds depending on all of that...yes most laptops come these days with a built in wireless modem, but you will need of course, to have wireless internet access where you intend to use the laptop...happy shopping

Try dell.co.uk. Call them up.... only they can help u to find the best one for you on right price.... otherwishe you can try apple.co.uk but apple is expensive. Dont need to to buy pentiam4-5-6 u just need a fast with supported by enought ram. Take at least 2gb ram for windows-vista. ask more if u need any help [e-mail]

i would reccommend going into somewhere like Comet or Curries, and they'd be able to show you a range. i wouldn't reccommend going into PC world because they are all scam artists that are just after your money - and even if you buy their guarentee, then they still won't help.

when buying a laptop you need to take many factors into consideration including are you going to be playing games? and are you going to use this for surfing the net?

out of the two laptops described i think the second of the two is more suited to what you want,and even the 128MB Intel GMA X3100 Integrated Graphics are capable of running some games,and since this graphics adapter is direct x 10 compliant and supports pixel shader model 4.0 it will support any game that uses direct x 10
