2008-11-30 12:00:46 UTC
I have a new HP printer and a wireless enabled laptop - how do I print to the printer without wires going everywhere? The printer is not near the router by the way??

Some time ago I brought a self-help guide off ebay but now I've lost it.

Thanks for your help.

Oh... Networking is your answer.

What type of computers you have?

Operation system I mean.

I assume the printer is hooked up to a desktop?

Look for my answer to find out how to first set up your network.

Next, on the computer that you have your printer on, you're going to have to make it "sharable."

Oh cool, that is actually a word!

Lesseee...

(Not a word)

Windows XP:

Control Panel

Make sure you are in "classic view" (look at the left of the Control Panel window)

Go to "Printers and Faxers" (mind the spelling)

Now, on the printer you want to share, right click and click "sharing"

Obviously, you want to share the printer, so click "share this printer" (give it a fancy name if you like)

There you go, it's set to share.

Vista:

Control Panel

(Classic view!!!)

Printers

Right-click the printer you want to share and click "sharing"

Share the printer (giving it a fancy name if you like).

There you go!

On your other computer you have to add the printer...

Just go to the "printers/faxers" page again and click "add" and then click something to the extent of "from a local network" and find your printer to add it.

That's only if you have a Windows based computer...

Good luck!

Is the Printer WiFi? Have you got a PC anywhere near the printer?

"When you click on print it SHOULD detect the printer and just press OK and there you go.

Give it a go"

It doesn't automatically detect the printer! You have to install the drivers first, She has to install drivers first. Her question is can she print wireless. And that all depends on the questions I have asked.

you need to get a wireless print server

Will need some more information on this before the question can be correctly replied to. For one, if you have multiple computers, you can connect the printer to a desktop which is connected to the router and then print through over the network. If the printer has an in-built wifi card then you can connect it straight to a router and then print wirelessly from your portable.

Even if the printer does not have a wireless card in-built, you can contact HP and see if they have a compatible print-server for your printer. This can make your printer work wirelessly.

Is it a wireless printer. If its not you must have to get some kind of bluetooth to put in the printer if that's possible.

As it's not a wireless printer you will need a bluetooth or an HP wireless adapter that goes in the USB port on the printer.

Google hp wireless adapter and lots come up even on ebay just make sure its the right one for your printer.

Like this.

in accordance to the HP internet site, the printer you have is the two under pressure out and on the spot community able out of the container. The bluetooth difficulty replaced right into a incorrect steer and you're able to desire to provide up on that as this is purely for terribly short variety (10ft.) use. if your cyber web router is on your table then the least confusing difficulty to do is to connect a cable between between the 4 ports on the returned of the router and the comparable port on the printer. it relatively is a 'promptly Ethernet cable' and could fee you around a fiver from a good laptop save or around £15 from laptop international. This then can provide a printer related on your community which you would be able to print to remotely. if your cyber web router isn't on your table then you definitely could desire to connect the printer on your community wirelessly. there's a menu selection on the printer to permit you to % your on the spot community and to pass into the community password (additionally talked approximately as WEP/WPS/TKIP key). this could set up a on the spot link between the printer and your cyber web router, returned providing you with a printer related on your community which you would be able to print to remotely. some HP printers got here with a application application on the CD that helps you are trying this and to get it to artwork you are able to desire to do a as quickly as-purely setup with the USB connection in place. In the two case, to try this however, you will could desire to function a clean printer on your laptop. on top of issues Panel, Printers, upload a printer and stick to the activates for including a community printer. The printer could desire to easily take place in the checklist that comes up after which you're off. If this does not pass as easily as i've got pronounced right here then get your unique CD that got here with the printer and there is an setting up wizard there which will step you thru it. the different valuable factors of the printer (scanning, memory card slots) are not attainable over the community connection.
