Because they honestly believe they are better machines(NOT), i think they are a cult of people who roam together.

For Apple laptops, the software sells the hardware.

Have you seen the Movie "Pirates of Silicon Valley"? it was rather good. it showed how pc and mac started. and so now everytime I see Steve Jobs I think of how he dumped his pregnaut girlfriend and didn't help her. You can rent the movie from Netflix it was a made for tv in the 90's

Well. First of, I use a macbook, and an iMac everyday. Apart from playing computer games and fixing the Vista computer at home, I try not to use Windows.

Why? Because the Apple OS is so much better. I like the dock, and still beast that thing in Windows 7. Expose and the widgets are brilliant, I wish I could get an expose like thing on Windows, because it speeds things up. The top bit? Brilliant. Confusing for a new user, but its good. On one side is the Apple logo, letting you into software updates, system preferences etc etc. THen the usual File, Edit...

The other, is the time, Wifi, Spotlight, and others. Which brings me to Spotlight, by pressing CMD + SPACE, I can open almost any application or document. I just press this and saf or fire to open up Safari or Firefox, and is really fast.

The fact that it doesn't use stupid C: and D: drives is brilliant, and you can easily navigate to find stuff. Need to find some app preferences, chances are, its in the Library, Your documents go in Documents, pictures in Pictures. Easy. Simple.

Then that there is little viruses or several other software, Great!

It is also very stable. Even the 10.6.0 release was great for a new OS release. I had some printer driver issues but thats about it. Snow Leopard, Apples newest OS (10.6) is great. It combines 32 and 64-bit architecture. Meaning that you can run 64-bit Apps, (Like Finder and Safari) faster then before, whilst still able to run anything else normally. Something that Windows has failed to do. Then the other stuff under the hood, meaning that its faster and leaner. 5GB or more smaller the Leopard.

You say about hardware, then look at this: My Macbook (Before I upgraded it) has a Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz processor, 250GB HDD and 2GB RAM. The Vista computer at home, has a Quad Core 2.4GHz Processor, 1TB HDD and 2GB RAM. My Macbook is faster, no matter what you are doing.

And the Email App is much better then Outlook. Easier to setup. And the look and finish of them.

The keyboard they use, is great. Much better then the pillow keys from any other computer. Its thin and light, and easy to type with. The new Magic Mouse, never used it, but it looks good. Its all thin and light and good looking, compared to the bulky computers in the shops.

Although, a few errors with my macbook, due to the plastic casing, but that was fixed free of charge! Anything else?

Oh yes. No matter what you want to do, chances are that Macs will do it better, easier and faster!

Apple computers are considered as being very user-friendly and stylish. People also want to buy into the brand, for the niche factor as the majority of PCs and laptops are running on Windows so those with a Mac have the 'I'm different' factor about themselves. Others will buy them because they function better than a Windows computer could for their intended purpose, e.g. graphic design, music-making.

Ok i think that windows pc's are prone to being crashed and destroyed by malicious programs but mac on the other hand cant have viruses "i think" and an average individual probably took this into consideration before purchasing the computer you know like having to spend money after to repair the system

I'm a PC... man! Haha!! At the end of the day, if there's 2 things that do the same job, i'm gonna go for the cheapest one! It's all about the name and logo! Although Apple PCs do look quite nice, i'm not paying more for it! It's there to be used, not looked at!

because they think there cool because its a lot of eye candy also they probally dislike windows for a reason and because they dont get virus which is stupid because if your so stupid to download one maybe you just do need one. i woundt buy one because there over price and anything a mac can do a pc can do...

It's a sort of "social standard" to own a Mac. You hit it right on the head. Many people also switch to Macs because they can't deal with Windows.

You can't justify the price when the average Mac user uses the Mac for basic tasks.

The general public views the Macs as an "immaculate" computer when they're not.

They're different.

OS X is very dumbed down. It's basically Linux for Windows users... sorta lol.

It's got the security of Unix and the ease of use that Windows offers (executable installers instead of installing via terminal commands like a REAL Unix system).

Best of both worlds? Maybe... to some people.

The average computer user doesn't know the difference between a Celeron and the i7 (probably and exaggeration to a degree, but you understand where I'm going lol) and Apple makes a killing off of the general public's ignorance.

Is Apple hardware (which you have to use) better? No.

The hard drive still uses platters, a read/write head, and actuator arm, still runs at the same RPMs, has the same cache... So is it better? No, it uses a different file system (like how Linux uses ext3). Is the filesystem better... that's debatable. The Macs also use the same Intel CPUs that "PCs" use. Of course, those are just two examples.

I've heard someone say that the Mac's CPU's are rated higher (they rate them out of 5 stars)... maybe... but I have a higher L2 cache, a higher FSB, four cores, and a comparable frequency. I can care-less what the "rating" is, I have more power (I'm using the term "I" generally).

Anyone that has enough knowledge about computers can easily avoid (or at least get rid of) viruses, fix a BSoD, and fix any other errors in Windows. I know I've done a great job doing so. Yes, the Windows Registry is complex and no one fully understands why it's needed... but that's the way it is, learn to live with it or install Linux and live to learn with that.

For me... unless the price of the Macs dropped to 45% - 50% what they are now, I wouldn't buy one or even recommend one when you could get a "PC" to perform any task just as good for half the price (or better for a comparable price tag). As long as Apple is greedy and propriety... I will never buy another Apple product.

Mac users can keep there ascetically pleasing OS (which is very nice on the eyes, I'll admit), their built in webcam, and their "lack of viruses" (which isn't true... there's just not as many viruses and they're not as easy to catch).

I'll save some money, build it myself, run Linux on one hard drive & Windows on another, have better hardware across the board (pun?), have the ability to upgrade easily, and play Crysis.

"I'll just install Windows on my Mac and play games too..."

Yeah, but for an extra $100 - $200 on top of your already steep bill to Apple.

Besides, I rather enjoy learning how to compile programs under Linux and installing via the terminal.

Money makes everything turn, people...

Apple figured that out... you should too.

I sure as hell won't spend twice as much for half of a computer.

Absolutely get a Mac. Its the least limiting option out there. If you must have Windows as well, then use OS X leopard's boot-camp to let XP or Vista run natively on the machine as well. You can also use Vmware or Parallels to run Windows apps within OS X itself too. (Don't forget it has Unix under the hood, so you can run those apps if you know how). A Mac will last twice as long as any PC will. You get great full version apps straight out of the box that will that get you doing all kinds of things on the computer that you didn't know you had a talent for. If money is no object then definitely get a Macbook Pro. They're fast, have much better graphics for games and power-user programs and are much more future proof then the standard Macbooks are. You might also want to look at getting a flat screen DVI monitor and a corded keyboard and mouse (so you can run it with the lid closed and use it like a desktop machine when you are at your desk). Also don't forget to get applecare, your laptop will then have worldwide service no matter where your field-trips take you.

General public think they look cool.

However, if you are a graphic designer, photographer, etc. Apple is far better, more reliable, handles the files faster and smother and give a high quality result in the final product when using software like Adobe CS3 or 4.
