Will the graphic card in the Asus G73Jh last for at least 3-5 years?

Question

So I'm headed for university soon and I'm thinking of getting this gaming laptop. What do you hardware geniuses think? I'm a hardware noob so I know nothing. If this isn't the the best for my price range (USD$1200-1500) what are better alternatives? I'd prefer graphic cards that could last until I graduate. I'm pretty much worried that if I buy one with an old graphic card, in the near future the next game gen comes up and would render my current hardware obsolete. I'd probably spend $100 more if it's worth it. THANKS!

Graphics card can even last for 6-7 years if you use your laptop properly.Years ago I had 6200 card on my pc which worked fine till last year.Iam having hp dv9704tx which is having 8600m gs.I had to change the card because I fried the card.Proper ventilation was missing because of which this happened.So if you provide proper ventilation and maintain temperature then it can last for years.



Also while buying laptop look for mid range or high end newly released card.Otherwise you will have to suffer.Look for the cards like GeForce GT 460M,GT 550M,GT 540M,GT 520M.I recommend buying G73SW-XA1.It is having powerful 2nd gen i7 processor and powerful graphics card.If I was you then I would have bought that laptop.

Yes if your laptop has one of the graphics cards mentioned above then it can play all the upcoming games as they are DirectX 11 ready and supports Physx technology.

Taking care of a computer,defragg,disk cleanup, updates,running anti-virus scans,etc. will keep it running in peak performance, there is no real guarantee that that asus laptop graphic cards or any graphic card on the market will last 3-5 years but asus, are pretty good laptops from people i talk to,look i have a old laptop with a 16mb graphic card in it,still going after 9 years, the first part of my answers is something that needs to be done to keep internal and external hardware from failing,good luck at college
