Use your Snow Leopard disk to erase the drive and reinstall it.
I am assuming Snow Leopard was previously on the computer and perhaps the original OS as Apple does NOT recommend attempting to install an OS that is older than the OS that was originally on the system.
And perhaps there is a service issue with the battery that Mavericks has detected and Snow Leopard did not?

STEP ONE :
Reset SMC.
STEP TWO:
Rejuvenate the battery by running it down to zero, and then charging it fully 6 hours.
STEP THREE:
Replace the battery.
Snow Leopard has no "Service Battery" message. If your battery needed service in Snow Leopard, you wouldn't get any message. Only after upgrading to OS 10.7 or later would your system have this message as a possibility.
To replace a newer version of Mac OS with an older one, erase and install, or use Disk Utility to create a new partition and install Snow Leopard there.
Snow Leopard is more than 2 and a half years old. Does that mean your computer is about three years old– or even older? Could it just be possible the battery is on its last legs?
After you erase and install Snow Leopard, test the time your computer will run on battery. Less than three hours? Hmmm...

I've been hearing that many MacBooks are having the same problem. The only way I know to downgrade the OS is to reinstall Snow Leopard from disks, which erases the installed Mavericks. It also unfortunately also removes all other files on the hard drive. If you have an extra hard drive, you could migrate everything except the OS. Then reformat the drive with Mavericks, Install Snow Leopard and migrate the other files back to the initial drive.

First I backed everything up on time machine, and I made a manual backup of photos, music, downloads, and documents to another HDD.
Next I put in the install disk from OSX Leopard 10.5.. Mavericks will let you enter the install process right from the desktop on Leopard 10.5, but nothing past 10.5. (If you don t have leopard you can probably get one off ebay, or find it on the internet somewhere.
The computer will restart into installation mode from which I erased the HDD. Then I installed 10.5 Leopard.
After the Leopard install you can upgrade to any version you want to. I used snow leopard because it only uses 1 gig of RAM.
My computer runs much faster again, like when I bought it. Sure there are some apps that don t work, but I have everything I need here.
