Whenever I plug my power cord into my laptop I get what appears to be the black screen of death, but without the cord plugged in I can get to Windows and do whatever I need to, but plugging it in automatically triggers the black screen. I want to know if it's the cord or the computer, because I don't want to buy one if I'm gonna have to buy the other. I also had my laptop plugged directly into the wall....I know bad mistake, but if that could be the problem and now the port for the power cable is messed up, I will have to get a new computer anyway! HELP!!!

By "Black screen of death" do you mean your computer's screen goes black? Or do you mean the blue screen of death (a blue screen with a bunch of white text)? Also, what do you mean by "I also had my laptop plugged directly into the wall"? How is it different then plugging in the power cord?

First thing I would check is the voltage and amperage rating on your power brick (that black box in the middle of your power cord) and computer. Look on the bottom of the brick and your computer, they should both have a voltage rating, and they should be the same. They should also both have an amp. rating, the rating on the brick should be greater than or equal to the rating on your laptop. If they do not match on voltage and if the brick does not supply enough amps, buy a new power brick/cable.
