Well I'm interested in buying a new lab-top and I'm having trouble deciding between 3.
Here are my choices:
1. http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/laptop_studio_17?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs
2. http://www.shopping.hp.com/series/category/notebooks/dv6t_series/3/computer_store?jumpid=in_r329_personalization/browse2/SDP_SDP
3. http://www.shopping.hp.com/series/category/notebooks/dv5tse_series/3/computer_store?jumpid=in_r329_personalization/browse2/SDP_SDP

They are all basically the same thin with graphics and memory, i'[m just curious about performance.
Please give me your suggestions! they would be quite helpful. Any experiences with these computers you would like to mention (good or bad) would be appreciated.

You chose laptops with different screen sizes.

Just remember, the larger the laptop the heavier and bulkier it will be to carry around with you if you are using it for school or if your work has you traveling.

Performance goes up with the faster processor and more memory.

I personally would think the best balance would be the:

HP Pavilion dv5t Special edition series

15.4 inch widescreen. You can watch movies and it probably isn't as heavy as a 17 inch screen to lug around.

My personal experience, I have a Dell XPS laptop similar to the link below. It's great, but I think it gets big and bulky to carry around sometimes since I travel. Performance though is top notch and can't complain since it does everything I need and multitasks very well.

Here are tips I give ppl when looking at purchasing a laptop or desktop:

CPU : Faster CPUs made for the desktop like the Core 2 Duo Processors incur greater price and suck up the battery faster. Intel Centrino 2 line of processor are good performer in laptops and also provide good battery life. AMD’s mobile processor are cheap but lags in performance.

RAM : To do the multitasking works better a 2GB RAM is needed. If you are going for a budget laptop try to buy at least 1GB RAM.

Screen : Choose the size of screen according to your needs. If you are going to use your laptop outdoors, the reflecting light screens will be better than the backlit screens. But they might look darker indoors.

Graphics : If you have affinity to graphics look for a good 256 MB or a 512 MB graphics card if possible in your budget.

Slots : Check if there are enough slots in your laptop to connect external devices.

Hard Drive : Look for a spacious hard drive if you need to store music and movies in your laptop. Also you can attach an external hard drive later if the free space on your existing hard disk seems to be running out.

Optical Drive : DVD burners are becoming standards now-a-days, so you should see that your laptop does have this. If you’re a movie buff you might want a Blu-Ray Drive.

Not really much of a difference between the major brands. I've owned an Acer before, and it OK, not great though. I commend Dell for keeping it's tech support in Canada, and not outsourcing it to India, so if you have any troubles, you will hopefully end up talking with someone fluent in English, and with no accent. Also, I've bought other dell products which I've been very happy with. I don't have too much experience with either Toshiba or Compaq. So, my final recommendation is Dell.

the choice looks to be the HP Pavilion dv6t series, i never even looked the Dell simply because i dont rate them as durable and they have a pretty high failure rate.

at work we used to be IBM based now we are Dell the the failure rate is very high and even after a few months we have had to put sleeves to protect them as they are already beginning to wear.

If they don't have XP don't buy them.

vista is still an experiment.
