There are lots of problems which make your pc slow.

Microsoft Registry Problems = Slow Computer!

Spyware/Adware

RAM

De-Fragmenting

Etc.

Below can help you speed up your pc:

I. De-Fragmenting

1. Right click of C Disk.

2. Click properties.

3. Click tools tab.

4. Click "Defragment now".

5. Click Defragment.

II. You can search which process full use you cpu, and end the process.

Under steps:

1. Right click on the TaskBar.

2. Click the Task Manager.

3. Click the processes tab.

4. Double click the CPU.

5. Find if the "System Idle Process" is max.

6. If not right click and click end process.

III. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:

1. Open your Start menu.

2. Click Run

3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"

4. In the "system configuration utility". Click either "service" or "startup" tab

5. Uncheck all programs that you are no longer using.

6. Click "OK"

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

You can download and scan your computer for free.

I do not think you need to buy an external hard drive, just do some maintenance on the one you have:

1) Delete any unused or unnecessary programs and files. These may be taking up space, memory and resources, thus slowing your computer. Also delete your cashe/ temp files, empty your recycle bin, clear your internet browsing history, etc.

2) Defrag your hard drive. Fragmentation severely degrades the speed, performance and reliability of your computer. Try Diskeeper 2008, its automatic so you never have to worry about defragging anymore. You can download 30-day trial-ware at www.diskeeper.com

3) Registry cleaner: Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, uninstalls etc. so this needs to be cleaned. This will optimize and remove redundant or unwanted items.

4) If you have downloaded a lot of stuff, check your memory. How much do you have left? If its less than 15% get some more. How much Ram do you have?

Hope this boosts your speed :)

Get a trial version of system mechanic and use this to clean your machine up, it will actually speed and analyse your machine.

This trial version costs nothing plus its just your time, rather than run out and get more memoery etc....

make sure that you limit your programs to what you need, also check where you time is, see how many icons load, if there are loads these make your machine slow, so right click and exit a few release the memory if youre not using them...

RAM is always good. But a surefire way to speed it up is to format it and reinstall the OS (You obviously need the original disks, and to backup anything you need to keep).

After 2 years, with heavy use, most PCs will be quite a bit slower...Lots of unnecessary stuff in the registry, lots of unnecessary DLL files. Maybe services and fonts. All those applications and demos you install slow the machine down. A complete restore will work wonders...

Oh and dont forget the RAM.

start > all programs > accessories > system tools > disk cleanup and delete stuff you don't want

also start > control panel > add or remove programs and remove big programs you hardly use

Yes there is a way to speed it up, clean your hard drive, remove old restore points, and transfer all your personal data elsewhere, an external drive is a good idea too. you might have some viruses too, get avast home edition for free and perform a boot scan. everything should come back to normal, but the problem with windows is that it runs slower with time a good registry cleaning will help a lot, try ccleaner, it's free and very good for that.

there is quite a lot you can do to increase its speed - right click on the hard drive from my computer and select properties you will see how much hard drive space you have left ,if less than 20% then purchase an external hard drive to back some files, but you could also right click on my computer again select properties and the disk cleanup option - two other things worth doing are

run a defragment and a chkdsk /f more on these below

To speed up your computer and free up space and memory for free:

Go to the Start Menu> Run

Type in "appwiz.cpl"

Uninstall whatever you don't need.

Next, go to Start> Run and type in "msconfig".

Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck everything you don't want to startup. If you want, you can uncheck everything, and your anti-virus will still restart itself when you log on.

Now go to My Computer> Hard Drive> Documents and Settings> [USER NAME]> Local Settings> and delete everything inside the Temp Folder. (This is a hidden folder so you will need to have "show hidden files and folders" checked in Folder Options) All the files in this folder are just temporary files that your Internet stored for certain websites.

Next, you should install CCleaner; it will get rid of alot of temporary files on your computer. It also has a registry repair system, which is easily the best free one available on the Internet:

http://www.ccleaner.com/download

Another option is to try defragmenting your computer.

Go to the Start Menu and go to All Programs

Go to Accessories and System Tools.

Choose Disk Defragmenter and when it loads click defragment.

Next, go to Device Manger (Start> RightClick My Computer> Properties> Hardware Tab> Device Manager) and expand all listings. Now rightclick and update all drivers.

Another thing I would say is to compress your files if you already haven't.

Open My Computer and right click on your hard drive

Check the Compress Drive button and let it do its thing.

Finally, make sure your Hard Drive doesn't have any bad sectors. Go to My Computer> Right Click Hard Drive> Properties> Tools Tab> Check Now> Check both boxes and Start. It will ask you to reboot, so reboot. This will clear out any bad sectors on your Hard Drive.

These are short-term solutions however. The easiest way is to just upgrade the RAM on your system, but at least the ways above are free. And honestly, as long as you have at least 15% free space on you hard drive, it won't slow your computer down, just the programs taking the space will. If you are interested in making your computer faster, I wouldn't recommend installing Windows security updates, as these will pill up on your computer. They make the computer safer and more stable, but not faster.

Good Luck =]

purchase some more RAM for it this will increase system speed and stability, also you could consider a new graphics card an external hard drive wont increase the speed of your computer btw if anything it would slightly slow it down, also you could try using some software for cleaning your registry and just a general tidy up including defragmenting your HDD.

The best way to get it running faster is to upgrade the RAM. Under one of the panels on the bottom, is a RAM card. Get the speed off of the label (DDR2-800 for example) and then go to your favorite electronics store (www.newegg.com is a good one) and buy a new chip of the same speed. You should ideally have 2 gigs of ram.

Upgrading is the best option. But till u decide and upgrade be sure to tweak it for best performance.

My Computer>Properties>Advanced>Performance

Options differ based on OS.

well you could always upgrade the RAM or memory...but if its too old and slow yeah, id suggest the transferring thing lol
