You can purchase retail kits or you can buy the hard disk separately and the enclosure separately and put it together (cheaper option). If this seems technical then buy a retail kit. Some of the best manufacturers are Maxtor, Seagate, Lacie, AcomData and IcyBox(by Raid Sonic).
