I know the obvious differences, but I have about $500 to spend on either a laptop or an iPad. I've always wanted an iPad but currently I don't have a computer. Basically I just need it for the internet and iTunes.

iPad and Laptops, they are completely different gadgets.

An iPad is a tablet, which runs Apple's iOS. The user interface is built around the device's multi-touch screen, including a virtual keyboard. The iPad has built-in Wi-Fi and, on some models, cellular connectivity.

An iPad can shoot video, take photos, play music, and perform Internet functions such as web-browsing and emailing. Other functions—games, reference, GPS navigation, social networking, etc.—can be enabled by downloading and installing apps. As of October 2013, the App Store has more than 475,000 native apps by Apple and third parties.

A laptop is a portable personal computer with a clamshell form factor, suitable for mobile use. A laptop has most of the same components as a desktop computer, including a display, a keyboard, a pointing device such as a touchpad (also known as a trackpad) and/or a pointing stick, and speakers into a single unit. A laptop is powered by mains electricity via an AC adapter, and can be used away from an outlet using a rechargeable battery. Laptops are also sometimes called notebook computers or notebooks. Other terms, such as ultrabooks or netbooks, refer to specific types of laptop / notebook. Most of the modern day laptop computers also have a webcam and a mic (microphone) pre-installed.

Portable computers, originally monochrome CRT-based and developed into the modern laptops, were originally considered to be a small niche market, mostly for specialized field applications such as the military, accountants and sales representatives. As portable computers became smaller, lighter, cheaper, and more powerful and as screens became smaller and of better quality, laptops became very widely used for a variety of purposes.

TRUST ME!! The laptop is FARRRR way better than a iPad. Soo many things you could do with a laptop. Like:

jailbreak your iPod,

bigger screen means better resolution,

more memory,

more RAM,

you could buy more computer resources like ram and flash drives with lots of memory at your local k-mart or walmart,

A laptop gives you the ability to create websites with ease,

It let's you code or program with ease,

You could create COMPLETE android/iOS apps from a laptop,

There's TONS more!! Believe me, I'm an android user and EVERYTHING I want to do requires a PC. Get a laptop. You could install iTunes on your laptop as well.

Hope this inspired you to get one of mankind's greatest inventions. :3 :)

EDIT:

If you like touch screen technology, there are also touch screen computers.
