i bought my laptop in 2007 and it was perfect it had the best performance iv'e ever seen and then the next year it started moving slower and slower and now it's 2009 AND IT'S A REAL PEICE OF CRRRAAAAP!!!!! it's always freezing up i always run a virus scan and it finds nothing! and no i do not have any start up programs AT ALL and there's something wrong with the battery, i let the computer charge 24/7 and the moment i un-plug the charger the computer will say "WARNING YOU HAVE %1 BATTERY LIFE LEFT!" i don't know what to do and i won't even bother trying to sell it because i HIGHLY doubt anyone would buy it, I'll look like a fool for trying to.... this is an
HP Pavilion dv 6000 laptop and it had windows vista home basic version already installed on it i have no idea what to do now and i can't get a new laptop because they all cost about one thousand dollars or more and any other laptop that is sold below that price is a pretty crappy one, so what can i do someone please help me????? also my computers base score is 2.0 everyone keeps saying that my video card and ram is HORRIBLE but i have no idea what that means, but i guess video card is for like graphics and stuff like that and ram is computer memory?? i don't know someone help me out?? and MOST IMPORTANTLY what can i do with this laptop? and i don't think i want to buy new parts for this laptop because it would just be a waste of money (which i don't have) seeing how everything is messed up..... any help??? seriously it's takes about 14 miniuets to do ANYTHING load a web page, start itself up, open a program, HELP!?!?!?!?

You can wipe the system out and install the operating system again. Make sure you back up any data you need. With the battery you have to buy a new one for your laptop. The same thing happened to one of my computers. The battey has worn out. For future reference if your going use your laptop and you know your not going anywhere just take out the battery and use the adaptor. eaving the battery installed while on it all day will cause the battery to go bad quicker. You are right Ram is your computers memory. If all you do is use your computer for internet, e-mail, homework, etc then you do not need to worry about having top of the line stuff. Your opeating system is just running slow. You never stated how much memory you have. You can find out by going to my computer and right clicking on any white space and select properties. Your computer could be buggy, low memory, etc. Also even if your virus scan is not finding anything doesn't mean there is not something there. If you gave something dangerous permission without knowing your virus scan will not find anything because it thinks the program that could be dangerous is ok since you gave it permision. It sounds like you should just do a fresh install. It has been two years and since you use it alot it is time for you to clean it out and give it another round. Your computer is still good. You can find more information about your computer through the website of the company who you bought it from. You video card is probably built in so you won't be able to change it.

are a few of the good computers you could get that aren't very expensive for what you get(the first is the best deal). And yes you can sell it because plenty of people would buy it for the parts(don't expect anything over $50 though). The graphics card doesnt really inhibit your performance unless your doing anything involving animations or visual effects(including games obviously). And the ram holds all the information you are currently using so it can get to the processor quicker.

If you get a new computer:

First thing you wanna do is get either Firefox or chrome (IE is more open to hackers/malware/virus's and all that junk than sponges are to water). Another thing you wanna try is getting JKdefrag not only does it defrag but it also optimizes your hard drive which means its going to put software you use often at the edge of the disk(faster loading time).

Defrag and run a virus scan at least once a month(depending on activity). A way to prolong battery life is to let the charge run out all the way(or close to) before charging again and always let charge fully before unplugging again.

Do alot of research before buying a new laptop. Look at customer reviews nothing else if the consumer likes it then its a good product not if the big companies like it, they are just looking for money.

well mate i just checked your specs on the net at

http://www.notebookcheck.net/HP-Pavilion-dv6000.1800.0.html

and your right your only running 256mb of ram, im guessing it wasnt loaded with vista when it was realeased and the recommendations to run vista alone are at least 1gb of ram nowadays hence why your system is so slow and crashed.

your only choice is to upgrade the ram, go to

http://www.memory4less.com/m4l_brands.asp

this people at this site can tell you what ram you need and how much you can install ie. how many spare slots you have etc.

its not hard to do yourself , on laptops you just remove a panel underneath and slot in ....

i bought 1gb of ram for my laptop of ebay last week for £15

so it doesnt cost the earth, so its either that or throw it at a wall ! it wont fix it but might make you feel better ?

Wanna trade computers? Cause seriosuly, mine is a bunch of crap. It's cheap and when I didn`t come on for a like a week last year, it had a virus... I promise I didn`t download ANYTHING. Anyways, you might be downloading too much stuff. You can't trust all of those sites to be safe for your computer. Also, some of those antivirus programs don't completely work. Mine delete infected items in my computer, but it's still running slow and messes up frequently.

Do a clean install first of your operating software (XP, Vista, etc.), then if it's still slow, buy some RAM from a store that sells it (Most laptops use DDR2 and 1GB or above would be a good amount PER DDR2 STICK). If it's still slow (The first few steps should fix it...) then it might be a slow processor, not enough graphics, etc. I hope this helps! =D

nothing is going to fix it except a reload back to factory level/your battery/unplug the ac/let the battery run all the way down/plug the ac back in/let it charge/then do this three times /it will adjust the plates in the battery/i do this about every three months/by laptop is 5 years old and still holds a charge over 2 hours//most folks do not know this secret/the factory will not tell you this either//and back to your other problem no program is going to fix it,it is going to have to be reloaded/trust me on this goodluck

most laptops sold in shops come with diabolical cpu's which are good at first then eventually do what yours is doing and die out slowly.retailers are making big bucks selling these laptops which look amazing with all the gimmicks and stuff but have cheap crap cpu's.same thing happened to me my laptop was really fast at first then 8 months later it goes really slow and i have reinstalled windows and cleaned out all the bloat ware but to no avail.i don't know about your battery but check to see if you have all drivers up to date.i have been looking at pcspecialist.co.uk,oops just noticed your in usa, just google buildlaptop or something and see if you can find an american version where you get to build your own laptop, you can pick a very fast cpu and everything you else need and you can pay them up monthly if you can get finance.try ccleaner, install it and it cleans up your computer,it might help.good luck

Have you ever tried to reinstall windows, this helps as the windows registry gets bigger and bigger, and no matter how many times you uninstall something, there are always traces of the program taking up space. I find a nice clean install does the trick, and the computer is nice and responcive again. try it.

Sounds like the battery is toast. It also sounds like you have malware. If you cannot download Ad-Aware, try a system restore.

Click on the Start Button. Type System Restore and press enter. Select the oldest restore point you can.

A computer is ONLY as smart as its user. Reinstall windows, DONT load all that freeware crap on it, and take a basic PC course. You probably have a ton of crap running in the background. Dont blame your PC. Its an inate object and only does what you tell it to.

Perhaps you have WAAY too many programs installed on it. I know that for some reason when your computer has too many programs on its hard drive it becomes slower. i think you should try deleting some useless programs (e.g. paint , random things you don't use anymore.)

i'm working, internetting someplace else, have the television on (yet muted-college soccer) and have a cd of Beethoven paino sonatas enjoying. i'm additionally ingesting dinner (fat grilled cheeseburger and zesty fries). artwork is regrettably in the background. Procrastinating.

You've already decided that what you have is crap and you don't want to spend another dime on it...

...and your mind seem closed to any other notion...

...so what, precisely, would you have anyone here do?

Hmm?

Perhaps you just needed a place to vent.

Fine.

Mission accomplished. Hope you feel better now.

Good luck to you.
