Question:
Your computer is running low on memory...IMPOSSIBLE?
2009-02-18 09:29:52 UTC
I just got a brand new laptop, which is significantly powerful. Its got an intel core 2 duo processor @ 2.53 GHz, 6mb L2 Cache and 4GB DDR3.

The thing is, a message has popped up TWICE (once 3 days ago, and once today) that my computer is ''running low on memory''. This message however only pops up when i attempt to play a song on windows media player, and it DOESNT happen all the time.

Ive read that it usually means that one is ''running low on ram memory''. But i reckon the laptop's specifications are more than adequate.

Can anyone help?

THANKS.

Check your partition that saves your system restore points. This may be the problem. Your ram is more than enough , unless some other processes are not releasing your ram.

***UPDATE***

Open my computer, you should see your C: drive and also D: drive. Generally the D drive is for your system restore information if you right click on it and go to properties it should tell you how much free space is available. If it is almost full then it is probably reporting low memory when it tries to create a restore point. If you have no local drive D then this is not your problem. This link is to a ram release utility that you can run to release ram that is being held but not used by processes.

Buying more RAM would be the easiest but most expensive fix. A cheap way is to increase the SWAP file (also called PAGEFILE in Windows XP). Assuming your hard drive has a few free gigabytes, you could increase the swap file up to 4gb in size (eliminating out-of-memory errors.). Still, recommend buying at LEAST 1 gb RAM for any computer today!

Do a memory flush that may help. go on to run>type msconfig>start up

then unselct things you dont need starting up e.g some gay toolbar crap

If it dose not work, it could be faulty ram

open my computer - right click with disk C - properties - click disk cleanup - check mark all -ok - yes -and wait to finish.

again right click with disk C - properties - disk cleanup - more options -in system restore click cleanup - yes - ok - yes and wait to finish .

now your problem is resolved (virtual memory is low not appear )

good luck !
