I am saving up for a laptop and its getting closer to college, im thinking of getting into ether software developing, game design, or graphics design. I should have about $2000 at the end of Chrismas or New Year but i don't want to spend every penny unless nessary. I need a powerful graphics card with about 512 ddr3 onboard video card ram(something relatively good) and a dual core prossesor (would like a core 2 duo+), about 4gigs of DDr3 ram or 6gigs of DDr2 ram, about 320gigs of hard drive space (i have a lot of, photos cds and programs), a web cam, windows will be a must for all the programs i need to run, i computers main os is Linux (Kubuntu/ Ubuntu) so viruses is never a problem, and i know my way around a computer even built my main desktop.

I have used macs before but never full out because of school restrictions but they look nice but the only apps i find usefull in mac os is iphoto, garage band, and imove, but like i said they are nice looking but i don't want to strech my budget to $2700 for a mac and a copy of windows 7 nor do i want to lower my specks or go to ebay.

ive been looking at a sony FW but what other options do i have.

MacBooks can be purchased starting at $999.00. Add WinBloze7 and a few goodies, it's less than $2700. Most people do not need the Pro but buy because they didn't do the comparisons. 1T external hard drive, maxed ram, several programs etc., etc. you will still have money left over. Here's my commercial. Here's why you should get a Mac:: There are NO CONS. The MacBook does both WinDozzzz and OSX, no other computer can make that statement. You have the best of the best. Apple Stores are popping up all over and you can make an appointment for a time and date, bring your computer there for a quick fix. They will troubleshoot it and fix it if it's a software problem for FREE. What other computer company has stores and can make that statement? Get the 2.4 GHz with 4Gigs Ram and you got a speed machine like mine. Go Mac and Never Go Back.

If you read the questions here you will notice that most problems are about every computer except a Mac.

Go with Sony, they are really good laptops. I had one for 5 years and it still works. The 15.4 or 17" screen models will have the best hardware in them. I guess if you run Ubuntu and have built a desktop you don't need a lecture on parts etc. Pretty much every PC company will have a decent laptop that will work; the trick is going onto sites like compusa.com and looking for good deals.

Personally, Vaios are the most attractive PC's I've come across. Macs take the cake on looks though. I'm a windows/linux user too so I'm not vouching for them, they're too expensive and restrictive.

Though I'm not a huge believer in Dells I would look at a Dell XPS P8700.

Specs: Intel Centrino Duo Core @ 2.53 GHz 3Mb Cache 1066Mhz bus

320 GB HDD

Mobility Radeon HD3760

512Mb GDDR3

4Gb DDR3 Ram

Webcam, Cardreaders, HDMI port

Even a BluRay player for your breaks in between studying.

These retail for about $1400.00 and if you purchase at a place such as BestBuy, you receive the free upgrade to Windows 7 which will save you some coin. This is essentially everything your looking for and you'll walk

i think of the single you have chosen would be extra suitable than adequate for facebooking and surfing the information superhighway. the only time you may ought to problem approximately intel integrated photographs (and subsequently keeping off them like the plague - reason i understand i could), is while you're into some heavily hardcore gaming. facebook video games for sure falls nicely out of the hardcore gaming type - so i does not problem approximately that. The reminiscence is advantageous, yet i does not use it for some thing like working photoshop CS6 - or some somewhat uptodate designing application reason that stuff is going to be sluggish and stressful to function while the reminiscence is that small (this is now anyhow) - yet you're no longer doing that the two i'm guessing. All in all....in basic terms get that one.
