Question:
Laptop charger stopped working?

I have a HP laptop charger
Recently, it stopped working properly. I had to fiddle with the cord the bit that goes into the DC jack until it would begin charging - usually by having the bit that goes in pulled a little way out and the cord spun towards me.
However, now I cannot get it to work at all and my battery is dead.
Is this is laptop, DC jack or charger and how can I fix it?
Thankyou

Hello,

What laptop model do you have? You should be able to tell by looking at the charger. If the connector tip looks burnt, melted, bent, or any other deformity, you should get a new charger. The problem can also be internal so looking at it doesn't really help determine the issue. More than likely your charger is the issue because you would have to damage your DC jack a lot to be able to make it broken or loose. This means you would more than likely have to purposely try to damage your laptop. I would suggest you get a new charger more than getting the DC jack fixed. I would personally recommend you visit Topmic. Topmic is well known for their great services and durable products. They include free shipping and free lifetime warranty. You should be able to find them by searching them online through google search.

Best of luck.

check your charger with a 12volt test light to make sure its not your charger,or a volt meter,if you don't have one you can make one with any 12 volt light bulb and a couple pieces of wire, the cord may have a broken wire in it ,usually right at the end of the wire right before the Metal plug end,and or if the charger is working good, look down inside the plug receptacle on your comp and look for the little ground tab which contacts the outside part of the plug end and try to stick something in there and bend it down towards the center just a little bit more.if that still don't fix the problem then the power outlet in your computer has got a broken connection in it.hope this helps.

Order a cheap Chinese knock-off from ebay. They're about $10 and if you order from a reputable company it'll probably be at your house in a few days. They won't be advertised as "Chinese knock-offs" but that's what they are. That's why they're so cheap. Laptop chargers fail, it's a fact of life. Heck, I'd order a spare if use of the laptop is ever important. They're cheap enough.

Like you said, it could be the cord or it could be the jack. If you have a friend with a laptop that takes the same AC adapter (cord), try using their cord on your laptop. You'll have to look up which AC adapter your model uses. Many models use the same AC adapter.

If your laptop works with your friend's cord, then you need a new AC adapter. You can find them anywhere online. I'd advise you not to get the really cheap ones. They tend to wear out quickly / catch on fire.

It is the charger that got broken. It may be a short-circuit that made it down.

Did you keep it plug-in while attempting to do something?

Did you smell some what burnt?

Did you try to open the box with any sharp tool?

Well I some of my hints is correct then I conclude that I is the charger that is having a problem.

You could get it repaired. But I insists to buy a compatible charger to avoid any damage in your laptop
