Question:
Laptop unusually slow?

I recently got a handmedown laptop from my sister. i used to use it a little for playing with friends because my parents took and lost my laptop. It ran the games very well then her boyfriend wiped the laptop and installed windows 10.
It can't run the games very well and some text on my screen is unusually pixelated and it is very annoying. I asked this question yesterday but nobody responded. Please help!

It seems windows 10 is a bit heavy for it, but I don't think installing a new OS will be much better for it at this point.

I recommend you defragment your disk. You can do it on your own and it'll help it run a little faster. Just press the windows key and x, select control panel > system and security > administrative tools > defragment and optimize your drives.

That'll take a while but once it's done, run a scan to make sure you're virus free. If you don't have an antivirus, download malwarabytes scan and run a full scan. If that comes clean as well and your laptop is still slow you might want to uninstall some programs that take up unneeded space and defragment again.

If you try all that and it's still slow then you're out of options pretty much. Congratulate your sisters boyfriend for being a dumbass and have him reinstall an older version of windows. Good luck.

The requirements to run Win 10 are the same as Win XP and less than Win 7 or Win 8.x. So it is probably NOT a requirement issue with Win 10. It is most likely that the laptop is too old, was no longer being made or sold, and so Microsoft did not include any drivers for that laptop model. So it is running on generic drivers that will work on the hardware, That is why you have pixelized graphics - generic graphic driver.

You can look ontheufacturer's web site and see if they have drivers for Win 10 available for the laptop model. (If not, see what druvers they do have and consider moving to one of those versions of WIndows.) If there are no drivers, there is nothing you can do.

Were the laptop previously using Windows 7, you can roll Windows 10 back to Windows 7 by rolling back the laptop to factory settings and it will work and this problem will be gone when Windows 10 is removed when the laptop is rolled back to the factory settings. All programs that were downloaded previously that were not part of the factory settings will need to be downloaded again because the roll back will delete all programs that didn't come with the laptop when it was new. Also back up all your files and pictures to a DVD so they'll be able to be downloaded from the DVD to the laptop after the rollback has been completed.

Get the original recovery disks and do a clean reinstall of the previous operating system - it sounds like Windows 10 might not be able to find new drivers for the older hardware.

You don't mention what the earlier operating system was...but I'm betting on Windows 7 - as it had the "free upgrade to Windows 10" that earlier operating systems didn't get. I doubt that your sister's boyfriend paid anything for the chance to "upgrade" your laptop.

Good luck.

Hi Deez.

Friends of friends usually ruin things but thanks to them we have question to answer here and technicians have work to do :) If you think it's too much hassle to downgrade again to your previous Windows system, then just reduce the proportion of the image in the screen properties, just a little and reduce too the refreshing frequency to 50 Hz, that would be help to see videos like before without the pixelation. Also you can open the properties of every game with your right click and choose compatibility mode with the previous Operative System that you had, if it was Windows 8, then choose compatibility with Win 8 and that's it.

It sounds as if the laptop isn't capable of running Windows 10. The best thing to do may be to have the boyfriend do a system restore on the computer to get the former Windows OS re-installed.

If your laptop is working slow then scan with antivirus, delete your all temporary file of your system, and end the entire unnecessary file running in your system by task manager. It might help you to.

Well, your sister probably installed viruses on the computer. Get anti-virus software or purchase a new laptop.
