I have an Acer 5100 laptob and realtek HD Audio Manager. I've already make sure the volume is up. There's no noice coming from the speakers except static. The speaker's don't work with the media player or anything off the internet. All I hear is static as soon as I turn on the computer, even if I am not running no programs. Today for the first time I was able to hear some music from the media player but only for a couple of minutes and it sounded all broken up and with static. Any help I can get I will really appreciate it.

You will not like my answer because no one here at Yahoo answers does when it comes to lap tops. You did not say what your operating system was and my guess is, it is Vista. The plan and simple truth is: Lap Tops, sound, wireless Internet and Vista do not mix. The operating system has serious issues when it comes to lap tops. People will swear by this OS but the computer geek forum boards all over the net, are loaded with very disgruntled people.

Sounds just like the speakers inside of your laptop are damaged in some way (which i am guessing you have figured out by now). I mean, the only alternative i would suggest is one of two things: 1)Get headphones to plug into side or 2) get portable speakers to replace them. This is if the speakers inside ARE actually damaged. Hopefully not the whole sound card.

Now, there may be another option here. Possibly, your music drivers on your laptop MAY have gotten corrupted, but usually that doesn't give static, it usually just doesn't work at all.

Also, if you have some kind of warranty on the laptop, i would also check that out. See if you can get it replaced (BACK UP DATA FIRST) through where you bought it or manufacturers.

there are four possibilities:

1) a sound cable/wire in your laptop has been broken and needs to be re-soldered (4 can be done at any computer store or maybe a music store like guitar center)

2) the speakers could be blown up. in that case, you would need to get new speakers installed into your laptop. to test for this, try plugging headphones into your computer and see if that works

3) there is something wrong with your sound card. bring it in to a computer store and have them look at it

4) your sound card needs an updated driver (best case, requires internet). to check for this

a) press the start button near the bottom of the screen

b) click the control panel button

c) double click on the system button (it has a computer with a check mark on the screen as its picture)

d) click on the tab that says hardware

e) click on the button that says device manager

f) click on the tab that says sound, video and game controllers

g) figure out witch one of the devices that it shows is your sound card

h) go to the website of the manufacturer

i) download the driver

j) install the driver

Static can be soothing and help you relax and forget about your problem with the speakers.
