I had a dv6000 hp pavillion laptop, which died on me after 3 years. I think that it is a problem with the motherboard. The lights and fan will come on, but the screen remains black.

I was looking at either getting my laptop fixed, or just buying something new. I have been researching netbooks, but I hear that they are very slow, etc. I am currently a college student on a very limited income. Right now, I need something that will handle Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, Access, Visio, and Project, and maybe for holding music.

Should I get my old laptop repaired, buy a netbook, or get another laptop?

If you can afford the laptop, get that. it'll be a lot more functional.

A netbook is a cheap device that enables you to browse the web and do basic tasks like word-processing, spreadsheets etc. If you want to do anything more than that, such as watching video content and playing games, a laptop would be much more user-friendly.

Screen Size :

Netbook:Roughly 10 inches,smaller keyboard.Good for simple tasks such as emailing,browsing the internet,light entertainment

Laptop: larger scree, can do complex and graphics-intensive tasks

Battery

Netbook : 7 to 8 hours on average

Laptop : 3 to 4 hours on average

Weight

Netbook : 1.2 kg can be carried in a regular bag

Laptop : 2.72 kg , needs a specialized case

I think you should get another laptop. There are many affordable laptops out there that offer fairly good performance. I am sure that you want to use a CD/DVD drive from time-to-time, in which netbooks do not have. I think that a laptop is also better in case you want to upgrade. I know laptops are limited in their upgradability, but netbooks are even more limited. So go with a new laptop as your old one is not worth fixing.

If its a problem with the motherboard it will be very expensive to get repaired.

I personally hate Netbooks for the reason you said, they are slow, and i find them clumsy to use.

But then again I use computers for more that just microsoft Office and Music.

If you literally just want it for Office programs, music and Internet, go for the netbook, if you can put up with the tiny screens, The New waffer thin dell netbooks are really nice. :)

netbooks are only for using internet ,watching movies,photos,music.....and you have heard the right thing they are bit slow you cant run ms office with fluency on these devices....buying a new laptop also doesn't make sense...the best option for you is to repair the old one....it's hp and 3 years ,so i think it's not in warranty....the best thing to do with it is to take it to a local repairing shop and get it done there.there are small tube's in the screen which are to be replaced....

HP Mini 210-1030NR is particularly solid product, have been given it to apply on the line interior the RV and it works properly for that via fact of length (very small footprint) yet I truthfully have used it maximum at living house via capacity of instantaneous connection. i do no longer pass over no longer having drives & only use flash drives.very solid product, have been given it to apply on the line interior the RV and it works properly for that via fact of length very small footprint. The reveal has a very magnificent assessment and definition. All drivers have been put in via living house windows replace. The multitouch touchpad is particularly delicate and that i had to surf slightly to study that with 2 arms you could scroll sidebars.
