why does my laptop run so slow?

I have had my laptop since april so its not old. Its 'Dell Inspiron 1525' when i turn on my computer it takes about 10 minutes to load everything up. It sometimes freezes while im on it too. People say it is because i have alot of music on it, but i know people with a lot of stuff on their laptops and it still runs quick. Anything i could do to make my laptop fast? thankyou x

Hi,

please do this first :-

download CCleaner, install it and then run it, this will safely delete all your temp files etc for you, then reboot back into safe mode again (press F8 as it boots up) and defrag your hard drive to get all your free space back again, i think your system is full of rubbish and just needs a good cleanup.

CCleaner will also clean your reg files correctly as well, but please remember to reboot between doing a disc cleanup and a reg cleanup.

Defaggler will defrag your drive quickly and cleanly.

Now please also do this :-

boot back into windows and run "CHKDSK" :-

start -> run -> command line then type chkdsk /f (the /f switch tells it to fix errors). You'll also need to mention the drive you want examined. Just put the drive letter ahead of the switch (eg. chkdsk C: /f). you will now be asked to reboot your system as it boots up it will start to check your drive with scandisk and then fix any errors you have as well.

ok heres a few tips for you



1. clear up your start up



when the computer is starting up you only need the operating system, drivers and security/anti virus software to load anything else like msn messenger etc... can be turned off for you to bring up as/when you need it



go into msconfig, go to run on start menu and type in msconfig, then go to services tab select hide microsoft services and then deselect anything like messenger (anything that you are not too sure about leave alone), then go to boot tab and do the same



doing this will speed up the loading of windows as less resources are taken away at the start up



2. check for and remove spyware



most anti virus programs can do this so run a scan using your anti virus program, if you don't have one or nothing is found then consider one or all of the following

i had a dell a couple of years back that took ages to load everything up. it was running vista home basic, and it took 10 minutes to load up the desktop- but it didn't have a dual core processor, and not as much memory. maybe you've just got a smaller processor or less memory.

You have to disable some startup programs. It will not harm your computer



type msconfig in start->open and press enter and select the services tab and check the option "Hide All microsoft services" there and disable the services remaining in the list that you wont use.



Also select the startup tab and uncheck the programs there in the list that u wont use.



If you are using antivirus from Norton/Symantec then uninstall it and use Mcafee it is more speedy.
