I have this laptop that is still new and It has 2 gb ram. I've got 2 antiviruses: AVG and the so-called memory HOG NORTON . Well, I know that norton may be the primary cause why my memory usage is so high . I tried turning it off but it still doesn't go down..

I also tried using the program "ADVANCED SYSTEM CARE - SMART RAM" which lowers memory usage when possible then the memory reading drops to 55-62% which is still very high. But after sometime it goes back to about 70%. Why is this so?

Is having 50% up memory usage too high?

People are under the mistaken impression that high memory usage is bad for a computer. It's actually really good. The more RAM your OS is using the better it's going to run. Windows Vista and 7 use more RAM to keep your PC running smoothly and that's exactly what users should want.

Both Vista and 7 have a service that tracks what programs you like to use and in what order. It'll then preload that stuff into memory so that the programs you use most start quickly. That doesn't mean that service has a strangle hold on memory. When another program needs that memory, Windows will hand it over.

Anywho, rest assured that your new PC is performing exactly as intended.

Only one antivirus is needed on a system, then of course there is spyware and malware, all of which consume memory.

Since your operating system isn't mentioned it may be possible to find out what exactly is consuming so much memory so you can remove the higher consuming antivirus. It also possible you have a memory leak that is created by any program at the time it is run and though closed, continues in background consuming memory.

I'd say if you do have an assessment avenue for programs occupying physical memory and how much identify which antiviral is consuming the most and consider removing it. Then I'd suggest monitoring memory consumption to establish if a memory leak exists. And last, I'd also suggest turning off any non-essential start up programs.

Of course, you can always add more RAM to your computer.

windows 7 by itself at idle will use just over one gig of ram and if you have 2 anti viruses going then that will be your reason. first up get rid of AVG if you have norton 2010-2011 then it doesnt use all that much ram when it is monitoring your computer. second of all have a look in your taskbar and see what else is running that you didnt realise and exit anything that you dont want running. type into run msconfig and select only the programs you want to start up and then this will stop you from having to constantly exit out of programs.

NEVER use two antiviruses, always use one. Even a single antivirus program can significantly slow your computer down. But when two are active they start to "fight" each other and the result is high memory and CPU usage.

Use AVG, delete NORTON.

you have too lots stuff open and too small a CPU. i've got have been given 80 GB (with approximately 4 GB in use). Get a greater perplexing rigidity. My wager is that your workstation is over 5 years old while 4 GB replaced into seen tremendous. the 1st workstation that I used had a 5 KB reminiscence. I "graduated" to a "tremendous" gadget and modeled an entire chemical processing plant on a 32 KB gadget and then moved to a monster gadget of sixty 4 KB to style the water recycle factor of the Shoreham Nuclear potential Plant.
