It's official I'm a clutz. I tripped over my charger, and my laptop fell from my desk. Unfortunately, my screen is cracked. I can only see some of the background. There's lines running through it and half the screen is white. I called Compaq and they told me I have to ship it to them and they will look at the laptop. If the damage doesn't fall under my 1 year warranty, looks like I'll have to pay for it, I was wondering, if its too costly, what are my other options? I need to back up all my files now. IS it possible to hook up my computer screen to the laptop? so that way i can see all my files and save them onto my brother's computer? This really sucks :(. Please, I need all the advice I can get! Thanks in advance

Hopefully the screen is the only damage. If you sent the laptop to the company the repair will be a killer. You can find the screen at ebay for around $120.If your skills are a little above average it is a relatively easy task.In order to connect the monitor to the laptop and view the picture there you need to change the settings.Of course you can't see anything so to boot automatically with picture to external monitor you need to disconnect the LCD cable. Some are behind the frame some under the keyboard.

You can absolutely hooked up your monitor, keyboard and mouse to your laptop.

I am guessing that it will probably cost more than the machine is worth if you paid less than six hundred dollars for the machine. If you knew what you are doing, you could purchase the screen and the surrounding bezel and fix it yourself or someone who is a friend and knowledgeable. You can purchase the parts much cheaper than Compaq would fix it for, that is my opinion.

But I would save all your files on a flash drive (pen drive). A 4G Flash drive is like 19 bucks.

Go ahead and send it to Compaq, get a quote only first, and make your decision.

purchase a sparkling reveal on line some places deliver the international over, only Google around for the main inexpensive then acquire a step by ability of step training for taking aside that particular lap precise, the displays are relatively elementary to change, and laptops are extraordinarily elementary to take aside only puff somewhat cannabis down interior the Netherlands and take a while, even maybe enable your son do it. may well be a bonding experience. and a rapid a hundred euro restoration for the different clever working pc. i could be somewhat greater durable if somebody on the motherboard became unfastened, yet i think of you acquire this in you. you probally in straightforward terms choose a small screwdriver to take it aside, only discover the instructions on the manufacturers web site or Google it, and you will continually ask yet another question. Blaze one up interior the Dam for me.

Hook it up to and external monitor and save your files. See if you can find a local repair shop to fix it

Yes, you can hookup an external monitor to your laptop so you can see what you are doing.
