My desktop gets DSL internet with a qwest modem.
In the top of the modem are two USB lookin ports that says "Warning for WiFi module only, these are not USB ports".

I suspect I must get hardware that fits these ports, is this correct?

I don't have my laptop in hand yet, but I want to hit the ground running when I get it. Thanks.

If your asking about Wifi hardware for your laptop, almost all brand new laptops are wifi capable, so you don't have to worry.

Now the ports on your modem are for Wifi modules. This allow your modem to become Wifi enabled, thus creating your own Wifi hotspot at home. You have to fit a wifi module to the modem. Or better buy a wifi router.

Most new laptops have wireless adapters built in so the only additional hardware you would need is a wireless router if you intend to use it at home. If you're just going to use public WiFi (aka "hotspots") then you shouldn't need anything else.

Yes you need the hardware but if you have the hardware in you computer already you simply have to install the driver of the wifi module to make it work.Go here http://www.bukisa.com/articles/106033_free-rapidshare-premium-account
