I will be using my laptop for college, and traveling.
I want a laptop that will have a long battery life..at least up to 3 or 4 hours, has to be less than 500 pound, wireless connection and has to be light weight as i will be traveling a lot.

My last laptop was a Acer so i am thinking of buying Acer again.

You should try going on comparison sights and searching around a bit for the best deal cuz of course you want the best laptop for the best price :)

I noticed that quite a few shops like pc world etc. are doing deals where you can sign up to broadband or wireless and you get a laptop or netbook free

Also it really depends what your looking for e.g gaming laptop, entertainment, work etc.

I personally like the dell or acer laptops as I have always had either a laptop or computer from them for a while now and never had an issue with them (also the price isn't too bad)

If you want a dell you can customise your own on the website to suit you (I tried it and got my latest latop from here)

Hope this helps :)

Well, given that you're saying you'll be travelling with it and it must be light, I would think a netbook would suit you (Acer Aspire One is one brand of netbook), but it also depends about what you're actually doing on it. If you're playing 3d games, editing videos etc, a netbook isn't for you, but if all you're doing is web browsing, word processing etc, I would recommend a netbook definitely. You can get a great netbook for well under £500.

If you don't think a netbook would be suitable, you shouldn't look at anything above 14 inches if you're travelling with it a lot. If you need a powerful computer that is quite light and small, you might want to look at the Dell Vostro 3300: http://www1.euro.dell.com/uk/en/business/4x_vostro_3300/fs.aspx?refid=4x_vostro_3300&s=bsd&cs=ukbsdt1

Try looking at all the big brands websites or visit a shop like PC World or Comet. You might want to read this article: http://askbobrankin.com/how_to_buy_a_laptop.html

99% of all new laptops runs on vista, you need to buy a custom laptop to runs windows xp. I would not recommend downgrading to xp on a laptop because of many driver compatibility issues. I go with Toshiba, they are cheap and very dependable. I own 2 Toshiba laptops and they never failed me.
