Hello, people! I just wondered, what does Intel(R) Pentium (R) Dual CPU T2390 @ 1.86GHz 1.87 GHz mean? , with that I mean the double Ghz's. Does that mean that i've actually got 3,73 GHz instead of only 1,8?

It means that that processor is actually two processors in one, which greatly benefits programs that support it (like Windows - for example virus scanner on one "core", internet browser on the other).

Programs that don't support it will run using just 1 core, so "only" 1.86 GHz in this case, but when this happens the remaining core will be used by Windows for any other tasks, so it's still faster than just having 1 1.86GHz core. :)

It is a CPU with 2 processing units inside, which are running both at 1.86Ghz.

It is a Dual Core CPU. Older CPUs had only one processing unit inside, this one has two of them working in one single chip together, so basically you got 2 threads processed at once, which is very profitable if you do alot of multitasking (for example listen to music, writing documents and surfing on the internet and doing an antivir scan at the same time). Under these circumstances a Dual Core CPU clocked at 1.86Ghz can be easily faster than a Single Core CPU up to 3Ghz.

Dual CPU = Means it is dual core, and acts as two processors for multi tasking and increasing speed.

1.86ghz=This is the power that the chip uses. The higher the number the faster the chip.

Now, because it is dual core, and it is using 1.86ghz doesn't necessarily mean that you are equivalent to a 3.73ghz single core chip. Dual core and Quad core help to increase speed but doesn't equate to running dual processors. There are many other variables that come into play such as how each core accesses the cache. In reality the Dual Core 1.86ghz is probably as fast as single core chip running at 2.75ghz, maybe has high as 3.

Don't listen to that guy. If you have a dual 1.86, it means you have 3.72 GHz or something around that. You have more than enough :D
