I'm running a game server [Counter Strike Server] on my laptop and I want the server to be always on for my friends to play!

The laptop doesn't heat much since it's in a cold country, the core temperature is around 45 degrees celcius. The laptop is a Toshiba one by the way.

I will keep the display off when I'm not using the computer, but I really want it to be turned on 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. I will take care to use up my battery at least once for 3 weeks.

Will doing this damage my laptop?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I want a quick reasonable answer!

If your constantly going to keep your computer on at least remove the battery, the extra heat associated with leaving your computer on for extended periods of time is not good for laptop batteries and can dramatically shorten their life span.

That being said as long as the processor isn't overheating there's no harm in keeping your computer on all the time, although to help it along, consider buying a laptop cooling pad or chill mat. It's extra insurance if you plan to leave your computer on for long periods of time.

I bought a Toshiba Satellite L305D on Black Friday in 2008. I used it mostly as a desktop. Up until about 2 months ago it was on pretty much 24/7 that whole time. The only reason it is not on now is because I am on the desktop I built about 2 months ago. I kept the battery in and the AC adapter plugged in. Once a month I would run on just the battery till the warning popped up and plug it back in till next month. The battery always charged back to 100% and if the time it would run on battery decreased it was so minimal I did not notice. I kept track of this every month. I would also blow out the fan and vent with compressed air once a month. I did use a laptop cooler. I use an older version of this one. Check out the link. Might not be a bad idea. So to answer your question. Never had a problem and my Toshiba still runs like a champ. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Well kepping the computer system always on without a constant power source will no doubt cause some internal problems like with the power cells

But if you want to keep the system on make sure that;

1. its connected to Power source, if you want to really protect it use a UPS (un-interruptable power source) this will protect against power surges and loss of power.

2. Minimize what applications you have running while the server is active.

3. make sure it is always cool, by using an Fan or AC system

4.make sure the area is completly clean of dust and debris, even the smallest thing can cause system failure.

By the way a toshiba is the perfect choice for runnning a server they are very reliable, hope this helped

Absolutely should not hurt the laptop to keep it running 24x7. In fact, the life of the laptop would be longer overall (as long as it's getting good airflow in a cool spot.) The reason I say that is because disks don't like to be started and stopped over and over, which happens when you turn a laptop off.

I like the idea of removing the battery, as having it charging 100% of the time would decrease its useful life, in the event you ever need to use the laptop as the portable device it's meant to be.

Won't hurt a thing. Consider completely removing the battery

confident, ofcourse, you may shop it on, properly, consistently! merely shop it plugged in or charging (in case you have a battery). if your connection is countless in terms of downloads and time, then it particularly would not count how long you maintain it on for.
