Hi. I'm going to college this fall and need help picking out a good laptop. I'm majoring in video game design and development. I was looking at this laptop (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+Laptop+with+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i3+Processor+-+Red/Black/9748289.p?id=1218166153790&skuId=9748289&st=samsung%20r480&cp=1&lp=1) but then heard it was being discontinued for they are making new models. I like the price and size of this one but would like a better processor and a better graphics card. I wanna stay $800 or lower. Can anyone give some suggestions and help? What laptop would be good for my major in college? I heard asus is a good brand as well as sony (vaio), samsung, and toshiba. Should I still get the laptop i gave the link for? Please help? thanks

I would recommend getting an Asus Versatile Entertainment Laptop, It cost $840 but is well worth it and will handle pretty much any thing you throw at it on high settings. The best thing about Asus is they are Reliable, they have great performance and they are also quite cheap for there specs.

Well, I'll tell you right now that I'm biased b/c I'm a Machead. So I'm going to suggest a mac. Apple computers really do dominate the design field (videography, graphic design, etc). Gaming design has traditionally been dominated by PCs and Windows software, but it's an industry that is always rapidly changing. I would suggest talking to some of the professors at your college to see what they will suggest for a machine. Try to get an idea for the minimum requirements for graphics cards, processors, etc.

Out of those, I would get the Sony. I've used an Acer and I can't say I would actually buy one. And with HP, it might just be the ones I've owned but they tend to get strange problems after only a year or two (the laptops).

oh, honey ..... if you are focused on a creative sort of future,

YOU GOTTA GET A MAC!!!!

macs are soooooo much better for artistic/creative applications. even the low-end macs are extremely reliable, and they cost less than $1000.00. the service and support are OUTSTANDING. do yourself a favor and check them out before you make a final decision.

i just switched from a pc to a mac. the transition is challenging, because i'm an "old fart" but nevertheless, i can clearly see the difference in quality.

my son is a computer guru - he is in charge of all hardware purchases and maintenance for a telephone/internet company. he knows pc's inside and out, but he urged me to get a mac when my old pc laptop wore out.

best wishes in your studies and your future!

HP's are really nice, all my friends who have them love them and they never have problems with them. My sister and her fiance just bought one too and they love it. I have a Dell and I HATE it!!! There is soo much wrong with it and it doesn't pick up wifi signals very well either =/ A lot of people I know hate their Dell's as well so I don't reccommend a Dell Laptop at all.
