No, all screens turn off when you close the lid. just watch it as you hinge down, you can see it go offf, The danger is killing you battery if it is not set up correctly. Set the battery shutoff so it never goes flat.
Laptop. Desktop Power settings
==========================
The following text is written to help fault find.
Right click on the empty space on the desktop >properties >screensaver tab >power
set everything to never in the drop down menu.
Choose if you want to login on screensaver restore
disable hibernation
choose what you want to do when lid closes, or power button etc.
click the battery tab and set the alarm and stuff so the battery will never fully discharge..
set up a screen saver say 15 minutes is ok
apply etc
Then open device manager (see help files - click start > help and support)
Or right click the my computer icon >manage >device manager
Look for and expand the universal serial bus
right click on each one listed underneath >properties >power tab
choose so the power stays on.. Do each USB listed that has a Power tab.
This is the best set up to eliminate hassles to help trouble shooting. Only choose power saving settings if you really have to.
If you want to use power settings then make sure you have them in order, first screensaver, then monitor, then hdd.
If you want to use hibernation set hdd to never, specially if you have trouble with it restoring. You may need to experiment a bit here. If you want to use a USB device to pull the computer out of hibernation, then the power to the USB device has to be set to never.
How to stuff a laptop battery
=====================
If you accidentally leave the computer on so the battery goes dead flat, and the turn off feature is not set, then the battery can reverse polarity. When it does this, it opposes the charging current. The battery will be useless and has to be replaced.
Also a flat battery that is down, but not enough to go faulty as above, can take a really long time to fully charge. The reason is that the voltage comes up really quickly, which restricts the current from charging a reasonable amount to a trickle. The light may say charged because the voltage is ok, but the battery goes flat quickly because the quantity is lacking. Resolution: you have to leave on charge a really long time, like 3 - 7 days..
