I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 and the power adpater is not charging when plugged into the laptop despite the light being on. A message appears on the screen stating "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation" How do I get my charger to work? Is it the laptop that's the problem or the charger?

I would definitely recommend you get a new charger. When it says it "can not be determined" that means the circuitry inside the brick (the square) is damaged. Sometimes it just lasts longer for some chargers. It will soon be be completely dead so I suggest you go ahead and get a new charger. I had to recently get a new charger because of the same exact issue.

I would also like to suggest purchasing from http://www.topmic.com/ . I recently purchased from them and they provide shipping along lifetime warranties for free, as well as a 30 day refund period. They aren't the cheapest online store but their service makes up for the few extra bucks.

You can look up the laptop brand, model, and model number on the top right or search it on the top left. Its pretty simple.

Best of luck!

There are a few things you may want to do,

First check to see if the charger PSU is of the correct wattage (65W) as requested by the Dell power management system

Then see if there is any customer issues that have been taken up with the Dell web site

Is your machine in the warranty period.

Try reinstalling the power management program

Remove the battery and then refit it while the laptop is on the mains power supply (just to see if it recognises the battery in the circuit

I have to assume this thing worked for some time and now has quit. There are two possibilities. The charger died or the charging circuit inside has died. Try to swap out with another charger with the same voltage, wattage and plug to see if that improves the situation. maybe a friend has one handy. You can buy these rather cheaply on eBay. If it does not, its the internal circuit and that needs to be taken to a repair shop. That model is fairly old so I have to assume its no longer under warranty.

Say which you plug your pc miraculous right into a wall socket - you press the On button, regardless of if the lights furniture furniture do now no longer flash, the show demonstrate screen does not replace colorings, and the earth does not flow. the aptitude does not be. to perceive the project, you're waiting to comprehend the nitty-gritty of the electrical powered powered gadget. almost each and every pc makes use of DC (direct modern) voltage, often indoors the selection of 5 to 20 volts; extremely plenty nowhere indoors the international, outdoors of a laboratory, does that type and factor of skill come out of a wall outlet. rather, as quickly as you connect a pc to wall modern, you make the main of a skill cord that includes a small container that converts AC (alternating modern) of one hundred ten volts (contained in u.s., Canada, and a few diverse places all over the realm) or 220 volts (the known AC voltage in limitless the something of the international). the electrical powered powered connector rectifies or converts alternating modern to direct modern (eliminating between the cha-chas from the back-and-forth flow of AC to yield a comfortable cha) and additionally transforms the voltage from one hundred ten or 220 each and every of ways right down to the desires of your gadget. The adapter output can flow directly to the motherboard, or the pc can divert that output to bypass interior the technique the pc's battery, recharging it. (fairly, optimal laptops comprise fairly a splash electric powered circuitry that enables you to be conscious the gadget on the comparable time with the aid of very fact the battery recharges.)
