I was just wondering if anyone knew which of the following laptops is the better buy. I will be using it for light-to-mid gaming, downloading and watching videos and music (I download A LOT), image editing and the usual browsing, etc. The sticker price cannot be more than $500. In fact, these were the two specific options I was given. I do not expect to be keeping this laptop for years and years. Two or three at most.

The first is a Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop I seen in a flyer that was recently sent to my house:
15.6" HD Widescreen
Windows 7 Home Premium
Intel Pentium Processor T4300
4GB Memory
250GB Hard Drive
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500HD Integrated Graphics Card
Dell Wireless-G MiniCard

The other is an Acer Aspire:

15.6" Widescreen
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
AMD Athlon 64 II Dual-Core M300
4GB Memory
500GB (5400RPM) Hard Drive
ATI Radeon HD 4200
Integrated Wireless N (802.11b/g/Draft-N)

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! I'll answer them as fast as I possibly can.

I'd choose the Acer Aspire if they were the same price.

While Intel processors are more valued, they are generally more expensive for the same performance. The t4300 is just slightly faster and won't make much of a difference. On the other hand the amd laptop has twice as much hard drive space( to store your downloads) and that graphic card is a bit better than the one on the intel laptop. Also the amd laptop has wireless N which is new generation wireless, while the intel laptop is still using wireless G.

Other factors you might want to consider though, are the battery life of each laptop as that is important.

Also consider the weight, but they should be about the same, and just look at how well each laptop is made ( but they are mostly similar). Then it's just the design =P.

Do keep in mind though that amd processors tend to heat up a bit more than intel.

Intel processors are more expensive though so you get less for the price.

edit: btw at that post above... the ati radeon 4200hd is actually still an integrated graphic card. But it is one of the better integrated ones and it does have i think 360 mb of dedicated video memory.

Its a competent pc sure, yet you ought to evaluate the size of the complicated force which you would be wanting additionally. I desire HPs and Toshibas. I even have stumbled on problems with the working structures of the Dell laptops. i might advise an HP Pavilion pc if i've got been you

Ok man. If i were you i would go for the 1st option.

The second is not good for me because of the AMD processor it heats up alot man.

But it is up to you to make a choice of sepcifications that you look for in the laptop

that you want to buy.

Good luck...

Acer. Has a bigger HD for your downloads, and a dedicated video card which can be better for your gaming, etc.
