Dell battery dying after 1 year warranty expires?

Well, i've had this battery little over a year now, so the warranty has JUST expired, and i get a message saying 'The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation' .... This is the adapter it came with, and always has been a dell 65W AC adapter!
I'm thinking this is NOT a charger problem- seeing as how this has been on going for about 2/3 months. It's been going down by around 1% every other day, now up to 1% a day! (I'm currently at 6%, so it's going to shut down soon....) I'm thinking, internal battery- programmed to do this after 'x' days / months e.t.c....

Hi Elizabeth,

Unfortunately I have bad news for you. You would need both a replacement for your charger AND your battery. Heres how it works:

With the battery percentage going down every day, that means its losing its power to hold its max power. Every day the new 100% ability is a percent lower. So one day it can be 50%, next day at 49%. Think of it as if you were losing your hearing, sight, or taste, little by little.

You would need a new battery to remedy this.

A new charger comes with the "need 65w". Over time, the charger loses its power to send out the given amount. A slight decrease, (down to 60 or 55w) the laptop will tell you. Simply get a new one because a laptop charger lower than required is probably at best charge the battery but not run it and charge it at the same time since it doesn't have the juice.

I would also suggest you visit TopMic (google them) for a new charger. They have lifetime warranty so if you ever have a dead charger, they send one at no cost to you. They also have free shipping and 30 day full refund which is definitely a bonus.

Good luck and I hope I helped!

Firstly, I would suggest calling tech support to see if they can help. If it is the battery, you're going to need a specific type of battery to be delivered to you anyway.

It could also be the charger. If you don't have any other charger to try out on the laptop, you may want to look into getting one. They usually cost over 100 usd.

My experiece with laptop batteries is that they usually last at least 2 years even with heavy use. The adapters on the other hand usually only last me about a year for some reason.

Batteries last 1 - 2 years on average. Sounds like yours is ready for replacement.

Look on eBay for a new one. Use your make & model number. Choose a seller with good feedback and in the US.

You need battery replacement soon. What is your laptop model? Go for the compatible with your laptop. You can find it at this link http://www.nbbatt.com/catalog/DELL_Batteries-30-1.html
