Why isn't my delete key deleting words behind it, only highlighted text?

It was working fine last night. Went to get on this morning and it won't delete text let of the cursor. ctrl alt del works, and it delete if you highlight text. Any ideas? Please help, this laptop is 4 days old!

It's probably that you held down the shift button one time for 8 seconds and accidently activated FilterKeys.
Press both of your Shift keys at the same time and then see if you still have the same problem.

The Del key deletes to the right of the cursor or what you have highlighted. If you want to delete backwards then you use the backspace key. However, if it is more than one character then it is either best to highlight and delete, if a word, double click on it to select, if a sentence, hold control key down and click to select then delete, if a line, click left button in left margin, if paragraph, double click.

I have two lap tops and have always high lighted the text to be deleted before pressing the delete key, this is the correct way to delete.

hit the back space key to delete text backwards not the delete key.
