Question:
Laptop loses wireless connection when idle or when lid is closed--solution?

My WinXP laptop's wireless internet runs perfectly well as long as I'm actively using it. However, if it idles for a little or if I close the lid, it drops the wireless connection. I CANNOT reconnect unless the card is disabled and reenabled; a simple release/renew or manually reconnect without first disabling the card never works. My Xbox360 is piggybacking on this laptop's wireless, and I like to close it up and leave it downloading things at night, so this is unacceptable.

I'm well-versed in computer tech support, so I've googled this problem thoroughly and I know what the issue is NOT:
-The wireless card driver is NOT outdated.
-The laptop is NOT set to hibernate or stand by when the lid is closed.
-There are NO power-saving settings in effect whatsoever.

The "fixes" that I've found are simple enough: repair the connection, or reinput the network's password. However, these are not fixes in my view. I don't want the laptop to ever lose the connection in the first place! Solution?

looks like you've covered all the obvious, You'll have to dig deeper.

Old dial up connections used to have a 'time out' thing where if you didn't use it the connection cut off.

but if your on broad band this shouldn't be the case.

maybe you should contact your isp and explain the details.

Have you tried bypassing the computer and see what happens or plug another laptop in place of yours?

go into the laptop settings and set it so the laptop does not turn off when you close the lid. Also go into the card settings and change it so the laptop can not turn the card off to save power.

ah, keep your computer from logging off when not in use, go into Control Panel, and the Screen Saver, and deselect prompt user for password on return
