Hello,

My computer used to be fast, no the fastest in the world but fast enough but in the last three day it became slower than my grandmother and is driving me crazy.

I have no downloaded new programs or uploaded new software. I run every day spyware, malaware and my anti-virus program McAfee to keep it clean and fast but lately that has no help at all.

Please do you know a good way to find out why it is so slow now and what to do to fix it?

Download and install CCleaner. Run it and remove the unneeded crap it finds. Defrag your hard drive under system tools in the start menu. If it's been a while it might take hours to complete so be prepared.

McAfee sucks the life outta any computer.

computers decelerate by the years as a results of fact they grow to be cluttered with junk data, too many startup products, yet specially as a results of fact of difficultchronic degradation. to velocity up your workstation, you would be able to desire to attend to your startup products and disable those you do no longer decide on loading every time you turn your workstation on. you recognize, stuff like MSN messenger, Adobe updater, etc. you're able to do this by clicking on start up - Run - typing in msconfig, hitting enter and going to the startup tab. basically be careful approximately what you disable and analyze what you do no longer understand. you apart from mght could desire to freshen up junk data, alongside with non everlasting information superhighway and gadget data. you're able to do this by going to start - courses - upload-ons - Disk Cleanup. And now directly to the main bit - defragmenting and optimizing record placement. Fragmentation can sluggish you down a lot as a results of fact difficult drives are mechanical gadgets, so the greater the study/write heads ought to circulate, the slower your workstation is. additionally outer tracks of a difficultchronic are a lot speedier than the indoors tracks. it particularly is why it particularly is right to place often accessed data to the outer song. There are difficultchronic optimization courses that could do it for you - the unfastened Auslogics Disk Defrag and UltimateDefrag (uncertain if it is unfastened or no longer).

even when you have protection u still have slight chance to get a virus esspeccialy if uve been goin to some inappropriate websites. i think u no wut i mean. the only other thing that i know of that it could be is if your parent/guardian switched a database program setting. and if its only while on internet then it could be that your parent/guardian switched from dsl serviced to dial up. becuz dial up is much cheaper. maybe around ten bucks a month although it is much slower and way less relyable.

How do I make my machine run faster?

--------------------------------

First step is to make sure you have adequate RAM. For XP and Vista 2 GB of RAM is recommended.

For a laptop, make sure you have it plugged into the wall and the power saving settings are set to maximum performance, not maximum battery life.

Sweep your machine clean of viruses and spyware

Run Microsoft Disk Clean Up (All Programs > Accessories > System Tools)

Then, reduce the number of processes that it runs at startup - scanners, toolbars, automatic updating things, IM clients, whatever. Everything that runs in the background makes your machine a bit slower. Delete the c**pware that comes from the computer manufacturer that you never use. A small program, PCDecrapifier http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/ can help in removing the excess programs that manufacturers load your hard drive up with.

To change Startup programs, use the System Configuration utility. Control Panel > Classic View > Administrative Tools > System Configuration utility

Or, get the Autoruns program (free) to turn off startup items http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx

In Vista, Control Panel > Programs > click Change startup programs.

Remember that Windows needs a bunch of different startup resources, so don't delete them unless you know what they are. Research them here http://www.windowsstartup.com/wso/search.php

Turn off the eye-candy, the interface shadows and zooms. Set your Control panel for maximum performance.

Make sure your operating system, video and motherboard drivers, and system software are up to date.

Clean out caches with CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com

Glary Utilities: http://www.glaryutilities.com/

Delete old programs that you never use.

Use Task Manager (Control Alt Del) to see what processes are running on your machine and what's taking up processor power.

If your hard drive is nearly full, either delete a bunch of stuff and defragment, or consider upgrading to a new larger, faster hard drive. Hard drives slow down dramatically as they fill up,

http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/83ec0ffe-ee04-4d53-8b87-25d1f05c954e1033.mspx

If none of this works, put in your Windows disk and do a Repair installation of windows. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315341/

Check the SMART status of your hard drive to see if it may be a failing drive

As a last resort, consider backing up your data and reinstalling Windows. This will mean reinstalling all of your programs from their original disks, and reapplying updates, so it is a chunk of work, but it can result in speed gains on systems that have been running and accumulating junk for a long time

To reformat a machine requires that you have the original Windows disk or the Restore disk that came with your machine, or that you have a machine with the restore files in a hidden partition. Contact your machine's manufacturer if you do not have restore disks.

2. maybe you hard drive space is not enough to run as fast as before

http://www.ccleaner.com/

3. clean your registryhttp://www.ccleaner.com/

4. download another spyware, mcafee is not that famous for it. http://www.malwarebytes.org/
