I just bought a new HP laptop. It's a really nice laptop and it works really well, but it freezes quite a bit. I have my laptop on about eight hours a day, usually because I'm studying so I just leave it on standby so I can check things online when I need to. At first I was using Internet Explorer and it froze on me a couple of times, so I downloaded Firefox because I always found IE to be a bit crap no matter what computer I was on. But it still freezes quite a bit. When it freezes, ctrl + alt + delete doesn't work, and I have to pull out the battery and restart. This happens about twice a day. I've only had the laptop for three days, so what do I do? Should I bring it back or is there something I could be doing to cause this? If I do bring it back, is there any point asking for a replacement of the same model, or will that just do the same thing?

Please help, I'm really stressed about this. I'm a student so I don't have a lot of money but I spent a few hundred pounds on this.

take it back. Its probably a faulty sata connection to the hard drive. If you have only had it 3 days you should be able to get a replacement not repair

1. Right Click on Desktop.

2. Select Personalize and now select the theme Windows Classic.

3. Click OK.

Also remove desktop background image to improve speed performance.

1. Right Click on Desktop.

2. Select Personalize and then select Desktop Background.

3. Now Select Solid Colors from Picture.

4. Select any color and then Save Changes.

5. Apply and OK.

There are some hidden unnecessary files stored on the laptop causing it perform slowly and sometimes freezing up. These files are temporary Internet files, browser cache, cookies, recycle-bin, and system temporary files and so on. To remove these unnecessary files use system cleaner program such as reginout cleaner.

A fragmented disk slows down the performance of retrieving and saving information in the files by user and installed programs. So, you have to defrag your disk drives through the following method:

1. Click on Start.

2. Go to All Program and Select Accessories.

3. Click on System Tools and move to Disk Defragmenter.

4. Start the process.

5. Done.

The most important component of operating system is registry which contains information about all hardware and software configurations. Installing a new program or uninstalling the existing one may lead to registry fragmentation which results in laptop freezing on constant intervals.

Microsoft Windows has no built-in tools available so use a third party software program for this purpose. Use reliable system cleaner that has registry defragmentation utility to start defragmentation process.

Manage your startup.

Clean system trash.

If you are playing games then upgrading your RAM would be helpful.

Definitely!!

Take it back to the store and exchange it for the same model or a different model.

Why worry and pay for repairs later or have to ship it to god knows where the HP service is???
