I'm looking for a laptop that will be if not top-notch, then at least very formidable in four years.

Things I'm looking for:

* Very quick and able to multi-task engineering software.

* Ability to cope with and dominate games like Crysis and games in the near future.

* Preferably 18" or 16" 16:9 display ratio with high HD capabilities.

* Very high end graphics card.

* Very high end sound card.

* At least 4 GB (preferably more) RAM.

* At least 350 GB Hard Drive.

* Bluetooth ready.

* Wireless card ready.

*Anything else you can think of that's beneficial.

I look forward to your responses and expertise.

Thank You.

The HP HDX16T series has everything you have listed plus more, and is a VERY good laptop. I have one, and 8 other computers in my household. I like it and my 17 inch macbook pro the best. You can get the hdx with 8 gigs of ram, 500 gig hard drive, blue ray, bluetooth, hi def wide screen, and much more for around 2,500.

Woah $3000 is a lot of money. It think with your budget the question isn't what's the best laptop for under $3000 as much as it is simply what's the best laptop.

I would like to point out that no laptop is going to be able to dominate games like Crysis. Even the best laptops on the market can run it maybe mid settings with only the extremely high end desktops dominating those kinds of games. Here are my suggestions for the most powerful laptop possible though:

This one is currently sold out, but it has the most powerful graphics card available for a laptop (9800M GTX). It still will not dominate Crysis though, sorry, it's just not going to happen in a laptop. This one's good though, and if you want top-of-the-line I suggest you click the "auto-notify" button and get it fast when it comes back in stock, or search for it else-where.

This one has a slightly weaker graphics card (9800M GTS), but has a bigger hard drive, a more powerful processor, and is currently in stock. This one is probably the best way to go in my opinion. ASUS is a great company and I trust them more than Toshiba.

First of all, no matter what you buy now, it probably won't stand the test of time for four years, as there will be many new innovations by then. Second, no graphics card can really dominate crysis right now, especially laptop graphics cards which are significantly less powerful than desktop ones.Third, $3000 will get you the best laptops out right now hands down. here is a great one to buy, customizable to your needs.
