I have a IBM Thinkpad T43. Once I have formatted my laptop with a windows xp cd but not with the auto recovery option. Now i cannot restore my laptop with auto recovery option. I tried pressing ACCESS IBM button and also F11 button but still i didnt get the Auto Recovery Menu. How can I restore my system with auto recovery option. And also it shows hidden partition of 4GB in my Hard Drive which carries System Files of OS and that partition also not damaged. How can I recover my Laptop

i agree with the above poster. if you are still within the 3 year warranty for a t43. you can check the warranty status on the lenovo.com site with the serial number. if it is, i would call up 1-800-ibm-serv and tell them that your hard drive is clicking and has failed. they will go through some troubleshooting steps on the phone. eventually, they will agree to send you another hard drive. they will ask if you want the recovery disks. say yes. within 3 days, they will DHL you another hard drive. you will send the original one back to them. this way, you get a replacement hard drive (although very likely it will be a refurb, be careful) and free recovery disks.

now, that option is only if you want to format the hard drive. if you are happy with things the way that they are, than do nothing...but the recovery partition is gone.

If you formatted with the Windows XP retail/OEM CD, then you wiped the recovery partition on the hard drive. You can no longer access the recovery partition so you're either going to have to contact IBM for a replacement recovery disc which should rebuild the partition for you, or continue on with the Windows XP installation you currently have.

Basically that 4Gb partition IS YOUR RECOVERY CD.

The files placed there are to recover a bad HD, or Windows installation in case of trouble.

When You boot Your system, You will see a set of keys to press for certain options like BIOS, settings, CMOS, or some other description, use that key and change the system startup to recover the ORIGINAL installation of Windows that came with your system.

Good Luck!.
