I need to replace the AC adapter for my Dell Inspiron 1501.

Should I buy a new one from the Dell website or get a generic replacement from somewhere else online?

Also, should I get the same wattage as before (90w)?

Thanks!

The specifications have to be the same. I would personally suggest you visit Topmic for a new charger. Topmic is well known for their great services and their durable products. They include free shipping and free lifetime warranty. Yes, lifetime. This means if the charger ever stops working on its own for whatever reason, they would replace it as many times as needed at no additional cost, for life. This is a great way to save money in the long run and a good investment.

You should be able to find them online through google search.

Best of luck.

Don't buy a 70 watt laptop ac adapter for your 90 watt laptop. If you buy a 70W ac adapter for your 90W laptop, it will work but the center part that black box on the cord will start over heating and could cause the laptop to slow down or even eventually give it no power due to too much stress. I heard there is a good online Papatek Dell Laptop AC Adapter store that has 100% new Dell Inspiron 1501 AC Adapter DC19.5V 4.62A. http://www.papatek.com/Dell-Adapter/2929.html Perhaps you can try.

Get the one from Dell. That way it comes with a warranty and, in the event of failure, it is simpler to replace.

Get the same one. Since your laptop does not consume any more power now than when it was new you don't need to worry about the wattage.

The Universal Replacements are not necessarily universal in their ability to replace. If you choose this option, please be certain that it will work and make sure that you can return it when it doesn't perform.

Personally I'd get it cheaper not off the dell website... Just google the models number and get the same wattage as before. But if your not tight on money get it from the dell website... Hope this helps :)

Of course, the money you paid decide the product you get. If your bugget affordable, get one directly form Dell; while if you do not want to spend so much, try 3rd party adapter.
