Macbook Air is known for its lighter weight of just 3 pounds. But in totality Macbook Pro is better because of its features. There's a very good user review here, from an owner of Macbook Pro:
The comparison of these two shows that it is better in all of the features. It has 2.5 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 processor compared to 1.8 GHz Intel Core i5 Processor which means it is faster than Macbook Air.. It has 4 GB DDR3 RAM and 500 GB Hard Drive compared to 128 GB Solid State Drive which means it has better storage. It has 13.3 inch LED-backlit display with 1280-by-800 resolution and Intel HD Graphics 4000. So it is better than Macbook Air. So the obvious choice is Macbook Pro.

The Macbook Air is best suited for portability, while the Macbook Pro is a suitable desktop replacement for scientists, designers and people working with video editing. Computing magazines suggest that students and those who want a portable, go-to laptop choose the Macbook Air, while those who want a flexible machine with older ports and lots of storage, or those who need extra processing power, go for the Macbook Pro.

I'd go with the MacBook Pro.
It isn't skinny and cool like that, but it's waaay more effective and has more usb ports, which is what I need. However, I wouldn't go for the Retina Display because that one doesn't have a disc drive... you'd have to order that separately.
