As with many computer-related answers, "it depends". As a general rule, laptops (not netbooks - they're smaller) have two slots into which you can put memory. Depending on how your PC was built, you could find that your 1Gb of RAM is a single stick using one of those slots, or 2 x 512Mb sticks taking up both of them.

If it's the former then upgrading is simply a matter of buying the additional RAM and clipping it in. If it's the latter, then you'll have to sacrifice one of your 512Mbs - so to make it worthwhile you'll have to buy at least a single 1Gb. With Vista I'd say your best bet to increase performance would be to get it up to 2Gb.

According to the spec listing documented below, the 1525 has two slots with one populated at time of purchase. However, I personally would open it up and check first.

You can't take RAM from an old PC - the format of the memory between desktops and laptops is completely different. Even between laptops it can vary quite substantially. Find a reputable dealer online to buy the RAM from - if you give them the make and model of your laptop they'll ensure you get the right memory to use. If you're in the UK I can recommend a very good retailer I have purchased from twice.

Not sure what you mean about the USB - a USB "what"?

It should cost no more than $60 (£40) to upgrade your system to 4GB which is the most your laptop can take. This will make Vista a lot faster for you.

It may seem a lot of money, but it it will greatly extend the life of your laptop, making newer apps and games (provided they aren't too graphical) run much better.

If you upgrade to the full 4GB, I wouldn't bother using the "ReadyBoost" system, which uses USB and other flash memory devices as virtual memory.

Laptops use smaller RAM modules than desktop computers, so no, you ca't take RAM out of your older computer and use it in your laptop.

You would need to check this computer for it's RAM capabilities,it may be possible to increase the RAM if the unit can handle it,No you cannot take a RAM stick from another computer and expect it work in the unit you want to increase RAM there are requirements it must meet in order to be used in this computer.

you should be able to install ram but buy it from a reputable co. or dell, no ram has to be the same and for a particular computer, thumb drive didn't do enough for me to bother but I have 4gig of ram also
