Hey everybody. I'm thinking of a new computer with a dedicated graphics card and an Intel i-series processor. My dad expects me to use this until it like......decomposes or deteriorates. My question is should I get a new one or should I wait a couple more months?

Gateway T-6815
Intel Core 2 Duo
Windows Vista (The fact that it's Vista makes it obvious to upgrade to Windows 7 at the very least.)
Intel Chipset 965 Express Family (I play games, therefore I need a new computer)
It just looks ugly.

For its time it was probably a good computer but I think this was released back in 2006 or 2007?

I don't think my dad understands how important it is the keep up with technology.

A great perfroming laptop. Does all the typical multitasking johs very well. The only area where its lacking is the graphics department. Should've been built with dedicated graphics.

I had a Toshiba laptop before which worked really well and I love the design of this one too. But I haven't used it yet much. After I received the laptop, I learned that the version of Microsoft Office installed is abbreviated version and that I cannot have the product key. This is a problem as Microsoft does not provide any support unless I can provide the product key. When I called, the customer service insisted that I cannot have the product key as the version of Office is only a part of the whole. This does not make sense. I can't add other programs as I don't have CD. I can't understand why I can't have the product key to have service by Microsoft. Also, I found out that I need to purchase additional software to be able to type in Japanese while, previously, I could simply download free of charge a conversion software. These are my surprises. This is not about the machine itself but as it comes with specific software, this is a problem. At least, these limitations should have been clearly explained before hand.

i think your dad understands very well how things work, we are in a recession and people dont have money to blow on electronics(which is why so many people default on credit, they buy stuff like new computers and ipads they cant afford). so maybe you should just learn what you can from your laptop and then worry about using that knolwedge to get a job and buy one yourself. and vista is better then windows 7, you may be disappointed with it( quite a few people are un happy with 7,depsite the fact microsoft tries to make it seem like it is the cure to cancer).

your dad sounds very understanding.

stop playing games and start learning how to program. your dad will like that. the games are going nowhere. if you can play games, why not learn how to make them. if you get good at it, dad may buy you two computers!
