I want to buy a good and cheap laptop. My budget is limited to around 500 euros. I need it for for the following purposes:

1) high speed internet access (download/upload audio/video)
2) word processing
3) data processing (STATA. EVIEWS, SPSS)
4) to watch movies

I think you can say I am an average user. I will not be using it for graphical manipulations.

I would recommend you to check out ProCompare.com (http://procompare.com/top/notebooks). They have a recommendation engine that ranks laptops and other tech products based on ratings and reviews from a community of trusted IT professionals. They also have a cool personalization slider that lets you personalize the results based on the criteria that are most important to YOU.

Pretty much any decent laptop would do the trick. Toshiba, HP or Dell would do the trick for you.

The purposes you require the system for would not put much demand on any system.

Good Luck.

Go for a HP good all rounder, reliable, robust and long lasting. Excellent back up if you ever need it. Come on down the price is right.
