There are lots of problems which make your pc slow.

Microsoft Registry Problems = Slow Computer!

Spyware/Adware

RAM

De-Fragmenting

Etc.

Below can help you speed up your pc:

I. De-Fragmenting

1. Right click of C Disk.

2. Click properties.

3. Click tools tab.

4. Click "Defragment now".

5. Click Defragment.

II. You can search which process full use you cpu, and end the process.

Under steps:

1. Right click on the TaskBar.

2. Click the Task Manager.

3. Click the processes tab.

4. Double click the CPU.

5. Find if the "System Idle Process" is max.

6. If not right click and click end process.

III. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:

1. Open your Start menu.

2. Click Run

3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"

4. In the "system configuration utility". Click either "service" or "startup" tab

5. Uncheck all programs that you are no longer using.

6. Click "OK"

Do some regular maintenance...

Delete any unused or unnecessary programs and files. These may be taking up space, memory and resources, thus slowing your computer. Also delete your cashe/ temp files, empty your recycle bin, clear your internet browsing history, etc.

Clean your registry. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, uninstalls etc. so this needs to be cleaned. This will optimize and remove redundant or unwanted items.

Defrag your hard drive. This will greatly increase the speed and reliability of your operating system. I would use a third party tool for this. Try Diskeeper, it considered the best. You can download free trial-ware at www.diskeeper.com

Running those specs on Windows Vista isn't good but Xp shouldn't be too bad.

I had a friend with slower computer as well, and everything pretty good but his RAM. He had 412mb RAM. I told him, that's terrible. Sad as it is, is family is going through a budget crisis, and it's hard to get RAM. I told him to Remove the current RAM stick and put two 1GB RAM (2GB Total) sticks in his computer. He saw a great improvement on absolutely everything. Even the internet was faster.

1GB RAM is "fair" but getting 2GB for Xp is much better. For Vista I would get 3GB minimum. I have 6GB RAM for Vista 64-bit and it's not good enough, getting another 2GB.

I recommend getting more RAM (1GB or more).

I suspect your computer has a virus, i had a computer that was five years old and we thought it was slow just because it was that old, and had many files on it. but we brought it into a tech store, and they found a virus on it, and removed it for $90. now it runs fast, like new. 1 gb of ram should be enough for a reasonably fast computer. either you've got way too many programs and files on it, or there is a trojan virus slowing down your computer.

FIRST your main ram is being used to feed your video card

SECOND Vista should have minimum 2Gigs memory

THIRD you probably have a compromised pc (virus/malware/spyware/trojan/etc etc)

FOUR your system hard drive is full or full of CRUFT

FIVE your drive needs to be defragged if you add./remove programs alot

SIX 120 GIG hard drive is very small and due to the lack of memory your hard drive is being used as virtual ram which is on your hard drive space

SEVEN i can go on and on buy why you get the idea
