PC vs. Mac?

I'm looking to purchase a new laptop in the near future. I am debating between a Dell Inspiron 1420 and the Apple Macbook. I plan on using it as my main system and also to take college courses over the internet. Which one is better? Which is best suited for use on the internet and is there much of a difference in that area? Any and all answers are welcomed and please don't hesitate to tell me why. Thank you.

I own and operate both an PC and a Mac. I use my Mac for most of my computing, and the PC for software not available for Mac and for gaming. I purchased my Mac within the last year, having been a lifelong PC user.

Why the switch? It's a simple answer: OS X. The Mac OS is intuitive, efficient, stable, and secure. I was sick of viruses, trogans, worms, spyware, adware, and crashes. And I was tired of paying for annual anti-virus agreements (It's like paying protection money to the mob.)

Personally, I'd go for the Macbook. With the Mac, you can install bootcamp and partition the drive so that it runs OS X AND Windows. With the Dell, you can only run Windows.

Edit: Whew, if you needed one single reason to buy a Mac, it would be the long-winded, defensive, "everybody has to be like me or else" response below mine. It's just a computer for God's sake. Get over it.

She's probably never even tried to use OS X for fear she might actually like it (or is too lazy to learn a new OS.) I regularly use both, I like OS X better than Windows, and I can say with experience that my OS X system is a more stable platform. I will still use Windows, however, since it's more widespread (but not on the same system via bootcamp due to the greater security risks of Windows that she pointed out - just my personal decision.)

I wonder if she has a personal vendetta against the Linux users as well . . .

In my opinion, take a look at what type of machine supports the applications that your school uses. Many schools taper their applications for Apple/MACs (especially for graphically intensive programs---architecture, media, etc.), where many engineering and math intensive applications have been written for the PC platform. Times change though, so this may not be as true these days. But hope this helps. Good luck!

I have a Mac laptop and a Dell desktop...let me just say my mac is 5times better than my desktop. It's so much faster and doesn't freeze up like my Dell does, I can hardly play games on my desktop without it making everything else really slow -.- I love my mac ^_^

Well, I have a Mac and a PC. I have to admit, I rarely go on my PC nowadays. The Mac is AMAZINGLY fast, especially with the internet. Not only that, but you can have as many applications open as you want and it won't go any slower. It makes research easier, I find. Basicaly, everything is easier on a Mac. But, on the down side, it's very different from a PC. It looks hard to learn at first, but you quickly get the hang of it.

Good luck!

(PS, pretty much anyone who says PC, says PC because they are too lazy to figure out how to use the Mac, once again, they are quite different)

I personally prefer the PC over the mac. i would go with the one you know best, since you need to know the system well if it is to be your main computer

Hello, Sir. My ID is Ms Dell, and I am happy to help you today. . Plus, computer is my life; that's why I specialize in computer technologies.

The Mac fans have been trying their best to be recognized by trying to counteract Windows. No matter what Mac fans do, I am here to reveal the truth that dominates their worthless inputs.

Whenever I respond to a particular question, I bring with me what they called “ Facts”

That’s right, facts speak louder than words that full of nonsense.

Macs used to be Macs, but because Macs have reached their limits, they gradually moved over to Windows components. Facts #1

Windows has been using Intel CPU from day one until this very moment. Macs on the other hand didn’t want to use Intel because they wanted to stick with their technologies. They were so determined to prove that they are ultimately independent. Predictably, Macs failed. They have surrendered to start using Windows CPU, which is Intel. The Latest Macs now use Intel 2 Duo CPU, a component that windows has been using since day one. Facts #2. I am yet to see windows swtich over to Mac's components.

I, and maybe you, have heard how happy the Mac fans are. They constantly talk about how they can install Windows on their Mac through bootcamp and parallel. I’m also happy for them, but what they failed to realize is that they’re using Windows, an OS that they claimed not secured, stabled and wanted. The Mac fans are hilarious.

Why did Mac enable Mac users to install windows on their Macs? Good question, and I’ve already answered that question previously.

It is the same theory relating to Intel CPU. Mac knows someday they will have to switch over to Windows OS in order to continue their poor success. In order for Mac to become recognized, they MUST join Microsoft, the leader for computer technologies... Since Mac now enables users to install Windows on Mac computers, they have sold more computers than they had previously. Facts #3.

Windows does not need to enable users to use Mac OSX, because Windows users do not need Mac OSX. Unlike Windows, Mac needs windows, whether they agree with my theory or not. Facts #4

I have to laugh mysteriously at the Mac fans who claim their OS is more stabled than Windows OS. I also laugh at them when they say Windows is more vulnerable to Viruses compared to Mac, and that Mac cannot be infected with viruses. Such comment from them authenticates how uneducated they’re.

The significant reason Mac has less viruses available is because Mac has less values in the computer marketing share. If you have 100 Goats and your friend has 3 Goats, wouldn’t you have more goats to sell than your friend? That’s right. So Windows has 95% share in the computer market, while Mac only has 5%, so Windows is at greater risk getting threats compares to Mac. It cannot get any simpler than that. And that is a fact you have to grasp. Facts #5

Furthermore, Windows is NOT vulnerable to viruses. The uneducated people are the ones who are vulnerable to viruses. It has been 6 straight years now since I last caught a virus, and that was because, at a very young age, I foolishly downloaded a software that was offered to me for free on the Internet. Facts #6

Now, would you eat from a stranger who comes up to you from nowhere and hands you a glass of Vanilla Ice Cream? No! And why? Answer: Because you do not know the person, and there is a great chance you may get poisoned.

The same is with computer technology, you must not download free software off the Internet from sources you do not know or trust. Facts #7

They’re many Anti Virus protections available to protect your investment, personal data and documents. Why don’t many people use security software? The answer is: Because they’re uneducated. And I rather spend $60 a year on Aunti Virus protection rather than to pay $300 for each time my Mac crashes.

Now, let’s take a look at what Mac computers lack.

Mac comes short of what you'll find on a similarly sized PC laptop, including the Dell Inspiron E1705. That said, the MacBook Pro ONLY features three USB 2.0 ports; FireWire 400 and FireWire 800 ports; an 1. ExpressCard slot; and a DVI port (VGA with included adapter) for connecting to an external monitor. As with the PowerBook, the MacBook Pro features a slot-loading SuperDrive that plays and burns DVDs and CDs. One new extra is the Apple remote that controls the included Front Row multimedia player; people wish, though, that the MacBook had a storage slot for it. Unlike most PC laptops, the MacBook Pro lacks a built-in media reader for flash memory cards, and there's no S-Video output or built-in modem--both of which Windows PCs have...

With a Dell computer, you get everything you need to use your laptop. You are never limited with a windows based system.

What windows based system do I recommend? Good question, and my ID answers that ( It has to be a Dell)

Dell has a range of different computers to totally satisfy your needs, whether you are a gamer, a designer, a casual person, a regular person, Dell has what you need. If you want styles, Dell has the the XPS m1330 that is phenomenally attractive, yet so powerful and stunning.

You can now purchase your Dell at Macy’s store, or you can just look at them in person before you purchase.

To visit Dell website, please visit this link 1. http://www.dell.com/

Dell computers now come in variety of colors to compliment your tastes and personality...

Customer service is what you need to be concerned about. Please note that apple customer service is one of the most degraded customer service ever there is.... Dell is up there being one of the best computer customer services after having failed in the past.

A Macbook probably costs you approximately $1,200 with Tax, or even more, while my Dell XPS M1210 costs $1700. This is because Dell supports a more powerful Graphics card than a limited Macbook. Furthermore, a Macbook probably has a CPU of 2,16GHz, which would be the limit, while my Dell is 2.33Ghz.

Furthermore, a Macbook HD probably is 160GB, which I am not sure, while mine is 200GB. Most importantly, I am using Vista, the world's most popular OS, while Mac fans are using OSX, the world's most unknown OS.

A Mac can't be upgraded, while my Dell is free, meaning I can always upgrade my HD, CPU, GPU, etc.

Now, sweetie, lets talk about my old Dell Inspiron that is serving its 5th straight year without an issue.

My old Dell notebook is 5 years old and has never given me a problem. Like I previously mentioned, it has been six consecutive years since I last caught a virus. What more do you want to know? Oh yeah, a Mac is a headache, while my Dell recently won its award at http://www.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/cto_xpsnb_m1210?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

Now, even the person who designs Mac computers is clueless. Yes, the Mac computer's LCDs can't be opened fully, which can be a pain in the butt. See Video for yourself. http://youtube.com/watch?v=2pQQWB3uZIs

A neighbor of mine has a Macbook. She cries everyday about how sharp the edge of her Macbook is. After I took a look at how the Macbook was designed, I did nothing but shake my head.

Macs do not give troubles? Do not make me laugh, sweetie. See Video http://youtube.com/watch?v=JJXAzHaCUgc

See more here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=YOn_zhY4tgU&mode=related&search=

The Macs sound like a cow. See video http://youtube.com/watch?v=uwuMcFt07x8&mode=related&search=

I could always continue, but that would certainly consume a lot of my time.

Also, when a Windows based computer crashes, it doesn't take a genius to fix the problem. But, once a Mac crashes, it crashes, and not even the people who make apple computers are always able to fix the problem; they usually give customers a new system instead.

Always remember this: Windows is much better than Mac. Whether they like it or not, a Mac is worthless compared to my Dell, and I can do a lot more things than they can with their Macbook.

I am about to buy another notebook, strictly for gaming, and that won't be a Macbook Pro; it has to be a Dell. I am just waiting for Dell to release their upcoming powerhouse notebooks. Sure the price rage is in its $4,000, but money is not my problem. I pay for what I deserve.
