Question:
Should I get an iPad to replace my laptop, or get a new laptop?

I was looking into getting an iPad. It was going to be just a fun thing to have to play Angry Birds on and do other cool things with. But my PC laptop (which has Windows Vista) has been giving me trouble. I know Vista is a problem, but I really think it's also a hardware problem. It's also three years old. I am wondering if it is worth getting an iPad to replace my laptop completely, or if I should wait on an iPad and get a new laptop instead. If I get an iPad to replace my laptop, I want to be able to connect it to a real keyboard so I can type faster (and I want it to be able to hook up to a printer if possible). What do you guys think I should do? Anyone have the pros and cons to having an iPad as a computer-replacement?

The thing is the ipad is what most people want in a computer.. it's really easy to use and isn't complicated.

You can browse the web, listen to music, download apps from a single on device store, read ebooks/audiobooks etc.

Naysayers don't really have it right. If your a complete nerd you might want something with more power and control (that will probably break and require you to fix it).

But if your an average person, that wants to get to work and use the web, the ipad is perfect.

Personally though I would save some cash and get a refurbished ipad 1 instead. They are not that different.

You could get a basic ipad wifi for just $399 ($100 less than apples current basic ipad):

Or you could opt for a 32GB/ 3g ipad for $519 ($210 less than apple for a 32gb ipad!)

The 3g ipad is nice if your an internet addict because you can use the internet anywhere you have cell phone coverage, vs just wifi hotspots.

Also, it's slightly easier for non geeks since there is nothing to setup at home, since the internet is ready to go vs having to setup your own wireless connection.

But.. it costs with a monthly data plan.

iPad is a much more limited device than a laptop, no USB etc, you can connect an ipad to a bluetooth keyboard but I'm not sure about printers, possibly you can use wireless printers.

iPad also means you can just use apps from the app store, you may want to think about what programs you want to use and find out if there is an equivalent app that does the same.

The good point about a tablet is its more portable than a laptop.

Personally I am getting a Transformer (if Comet ever deliver the thing) because it does what I need and I still have my desktop for proper programs, Plus I've never been able to get excited about Apple products. My old laptop still works too if getting a bit old if i need it.

You need a computer to manage an iPad for updates, your major typing and printing. Find a buddy to examine your laptop. I know a shop is too expensive.

Of course you could get a keyboard for the iPad and an AirPlay printer for direct printing, but there are other options for printing to your old wifi computer and printer. You can find apps to do most anything you need.

iPads are overpriced and underpowered. Get the new ASUS Transformer or something along those lines. You will save a bundle and get more for your money. Android FTW!!
