I want to transfer all my music to an external hard drive to free up some space on my laptop? Is there anyway I can play music from the external hard drive without adding it back to the laptop hard drive or mess about creating playlists all the time?! I also prefer to use Windows Media Player if possible.

Sounds amateurish I know but all answers will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Craig.

Yes as they all answered !

but you can also install and run "portable software" on your portable hard drive or USB stick so that your player always goes with you songs !

see list of portable media players on http://portableapps.com/apps/music_video but personally I use Spider Player portable http://spider-player.com/

Portable software are so complied so that they are not machine Dependant and need to know where they are installed... they just run !

All my music (58gb) is on a remote, portable. USB powered hard drive. When I attach it to my computer it will play either on Windows Media Player or on Real Player depending on the file type of the music.

The hard drives (remote) that I have are Western Digital and are excellent.

Yes, I have all my music on an external hard drive, and play it from there.

Of course.... As long as you make sure the External hard drive is connected with your laptop with a USB, I'm quite sure there wouldn't be any reason why you couldn't proceed with this. :)

Hope that helps!!! :D

Sure you can, just plug it into the computer and it's like having a USB memory stick in, just load it from My Computer and it will play from WMP if it's your default music player!

Yes, it's no problem, just move it over, then tell WMP to search for music. It'll find it, and BAM there you go.

Yes, of course.
